Got in my truck yesterday and started it after about three seconds the horn started to blow and wouldn't stop, I drove to my fathers house since it was just around the corner and ended up disconnecting the wires to the horns. I swapped relays but they were still blowing. Anyone had this happen, How about taking off the air bag cover to check/replace the horn switch? Is it as simple as the manual makes it look? Thank you

Do you have "Keyless Entry"?

If so are you sure you didn't accidently hit the "Panic" button?

I did that twice.

Mine is now disabled with electrical tape insulating the switch connection in the key fob. ;)

I had a 97 1500 that did this on its own one night at 300am in the drive. Just started to blow for no reason. Never did it before or again. Best I could figure was that it was weather related, ie: very warm and humid night, possibly caused just enough expansion for the horn button contacts to touch. SOunds far fetched but I think in my case that was what actually happened.

just a thought, if you have experience a weather swing recently.

The clockspring got done quite a while ago so I am not sure if that's the problem. I don't have keyless entry so that's not the problem. Guess I'll have to get that airbag cover off and see what I can see. Thanks for the input guys

My old '92 did something similar when it was fairly new... just out of warranty. The horn would start blowing for no apparent reason. It was most common when the truck was parked, but it also did it a few times while I was driving. It has no burglar alarm.

After a couple of weeks of fighting it I came to the conclusion it only did it when direct sunlight hit the horn pad... if I was driving or it was sitting... didn't matter. I replaced the horn pad/button and have never had another problem!

Truth can be stranger than fiction!

Bad vibes?

Thi DEFINITELY has all the hallmarks of a Keyless entry related glitch. For insurance purposes, I had to upgrade my standard Dodge vehicle security (keyless entry) for a Thatcham Class One system when I imported my truck into Europe and I make regular trips across the English channel between France and England with my truck on a RoRo ferry. Any vehicles with the alarm set will usually trigger due to ship-borne vibrations when underway, so by manually locking the driver's door you get some vehicle security when unattended, but you MUST remember to unlock the vehicle the same way, otherwise the Keyless entry (or after market (or even both systems) default to thinking "something ain't quite right here, so when in doubt sound the alarm, disable ignition circuits, enable vehicle immobilise mode etc... " Believe me you only do this once as it is embarassing... . Twin Grovers echoing around the car ferry for 30 seconds continuously at full blast is no joke.

Once done, never ever forgotten... .

I also have the twin Grover set up and nearly tossed two full cups of coffee the other day as I was walking up to my truck and accidently hit the panic button while searching for the key in my pocket!

Thrice done, never ever forgotten!

First I want to say that sometimes I procrastinate so I just fixed this problem yesterday. Disconnected the batteries and pulled the airbag assembly. The manual says if horm switches are bad the whole unit has to be replaced, I wasn't looking forward to that ($$$$$) anyways when I got it apart it was evident that the horn wire was crushed, probably from when they did the clockspring update. Looking very close I could see one strand of wire showing through. I put some heat shrink over it and put it back on and it's fixed. I know a dealer would have just ordered a new air bag unit and put it on. So if you have a similar problem it's worth a check.
