I have had bad experiences with hood shields on various vehicles in the past. Scratched hoods, rattles, cracking mount flanges, etc.

1. Can anyone of you fine people tell me which shield really works, stands way off of the hood and fenders on the 2nd Gen. Ram ??

2. Would you rec. one piece or 3 piece ??

3. Which manufacturer??

4. Plastic or stainless steel ??

Tired of wasting hard earned $$ on aftermarket junk through the years so any help, info is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks, Tony G on LI,NY

SNOW SHIELD!

I have a plastic one, mounts through the grill with stainless scews. It was on the truck but it looks like a Lund (looking at catalog pictures). Doesn't do squat for bugs. Works good on snow (unless really wet) above about 30 mph. I take it off in the summer when I take off the winter wiper blades. The former owner must have used it because bugs do stain plastic if left on long enough...

It has 2 little plastic dimples that stay on the hood but unless you are standing there it's hard to see them on my white hood.

I hate these things. Although I do think they are useful for diverting fluffy snow.

Anyway, I didn't put on on my Dodge, obviously, but have had them in the past on a few Chevy's. They enhance the rusting of the front seam of the hood. This may not be as big of an issue in areas of no snow, but the snow, slush, and salt sit down between the deflector and the hood and eventaully rust it out.

Just my experience,

Ryan

How about Geno's

I'm thinking of getting that stainless one from Geno's. More for stone protection if thats what you wan't.

I have the AutoVentShade 3 piece plastic stick on variety. It doesn't allow the crud to accummulate at the front seam like others that I have seen. It sticks to the topside of the hood. I did notice a little more wind noise after installing them. I probably wouldn't put them on again, as it seems to divert small pebbles directly into the windshield.

Lund stainless

I installed the Lund stainless 3 piece on my white Ram. It looks real nice. Problem is it did not fit right ,the center piece was OK but the fender pieces were not contoured properly. I got it on but it was a struggle. Living here in the desert it won't be a problem. If I was in snow country or near trees I wouldn't have it, crap will build up behind them and discolor the paint or cause rust.

LOL Rich

I'm using the Mopar plastic 3-piece and am very satisfied. The side "brows" install kind of hokey, but I have been very pleased with the performance-definitely less bug splatage on the windshield!:D So far there is no evidence of wearing paint, etc. , though from time to time you have to clean the leaves out from behind the shields.

I believe that the Mopar shields were tested with a wind-tunnel so that they are actually functional. The flat metal ones sure are pretty but offer no functionality.

Bug Shield

  I have the Profile+, three piece bug shield on my truck. I had the same system mounted on my '99 Cummins Ram and wanted the same for my new truck. I purchased it over the internet at partsamerica.com. The headlight brows mount with velcro buttons to facilitate cleaning. The main shield mounts with a combination of velcro buttons and clips at each end and in the middle that insert between the hood and the grille. They also utlilize clear vinyl buttons that prevent the shield from vibrating and slapping the hood. I would recommend this system to anyone.

Hood - Bug Shields

Thanks for all of your replys, I will look at the different models and then make a decision. I hate rust and scrapped up paint caused by a product which is supposed to prevent it from happening in the first place !!!

Happy Cruising!!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D
