What would happen if I took out the insulation from under the hood. Would it make the truck louder as a result? Would it warp the hood because of the heat? It keeps heat in I know, but only see 30*F about 14 days a year in Texas.

I want to do this because it would make the truck louder as it rolls by right?

Insulation

Insulation under the hood was one of several things Dodge cut out of thw '01 model. Saved themselves probably $150. but didn't pass it on to us.

Taking insulation out of your truck won't hurt hood, but will increase noise slightly.

I have had my hood liner out all summer. I do not notice much if any change in sound.

The reason I removed it is mice. They like to live up there or use the material to build a home else where in the engine compartment.

I had the same thing happen. The mice went through the air box hole that leads into the fender and drug about a pound of my dogs food into there and moved on in. I was checking the oil and noticed the air filter minder was sucked down to the bottom. The dog food and bedding was blocking the air flow. .

They chewed on a heater hose too.

I know in '99 the hood insulation WAS optional.

But that word on the cup holder dissappearing was that they just did away with it. . maybe they used up stock and you just got lucky... .

Ok in reading my '99 literature,

The rear cup holders could only be had as a standard when you got cloth or leather in a Quad Cab and it had to be an SLT, didn't come nor was it optional or part of a package with the ST's or WS's (WS=base in a 1500).

"Sound Insulation" : Hood and Inner Panel.

Standard on SLT's part of a package on ST's. Doesn't say with what package. I used to have a break down of the codes and what they mean and what was in each... can't find it.

You guys better be careful

Hey you guys have got to start feeding those itty bitty mice or else you're going to get reported to the SPCA. I remember my grandfather had an old pickup - 50's version, that we keep at camp. One year we came back in the spring and found that a porcupine had eaten a large portion of the bed!
