My hood release cable is frayed near the hood latch. It is getting harder to operate everytime I open the hood. If anyone can tell me where to get a new one and if anyone has replaced one and has any helpful tips, then please send it on. I tried to get a new cable today at NAPA, but they don't even have a listing on their computer or their books.

TIA :)

My cable on my 92 has been broke for , oh, 10 years or so. I just run it out the corner of the hood and pull it from there. Now I realize only a dodge owner from Colorado would do such a thing. It works fine. Oo.

Hood opening options.

A buddy of mine just keeps an old machete behind the seat. It slips in fine under the hood and springs the latch. The visual image is great too. Old red Dodge PU being stabbed with machete to open hood :-laf :-laf

Sorry to be of no help but I had to share that one. I just wish I had a picture.

JUNKYARD, where else??? Whole bunch of em around here. I just replaced the one in my new 91. 5 because the release handle in the cab was broken. I still have a good cable and broken release handle if you don't have any junkyards nearby.

Lol Yeah I did that before on a 79 power wagon I had out east. I finally used a cable from a 73charger I was parting out. :D

basicly, If it's long enough, it will work

Kansas farmers to it to. We drilled a hole in a 30-06 case laying on the floorboards and ran the cable through it and tied a knot on the other side to make a handle.

Boy do I feel redneck now :D

I have used baling twine (get the good stuff- poly, not sisal) and ran it down from the release mechanism in front of the radiator for just in case. I had mine break one time and it was a trip getting it open. Always make sure the hood will open before draining for an oil change.

I also have access to one if Bill's wont work out for you.

Daniel

After some more searching around, I found out that NAPA has a universal cable. Part Number BK 6652443. It has three or four different types of clips for the end and three different styles of handles come in the pack. Less that $ 30.

Thanks everybody !

Has no one ever called Chrysler about buying a new one? Or is that just me...

This is more like a 2nd or 3rd gen truck owner's way of thinking IMO. I've never stepped foot in a Chrysler dealer looking for parts. I've never even thought about dropping my truck off there either. To each is own.

I didn't think one could be a 1st gen owner unless they went to junkyards and had junkyard parts on their truck. . oh wait, that's what ebay is for:rolleyes:... .

When I broke the handle off inside the cab, I just clamped a pare of vice grips on the end and let it hang... . it worked so well that it took me over a month to finally replace it. The junkyard plenty too choose from! ;)

LOL :-laf I want aware of this rule, sorry! FYI, I am a service writer at a large independant repair shop so I am on the phone with chrysler about 10 times a day, so asking for 11 dollars in new parts to fix my gas pedal(yesterday) is ALOT cheaper than taking time off of work, drive to a junk yard(nearest one is about 30 min away), And even then it is IMPOSSIBLE to find 1st gen stuff. You have to call on of the very large car recylers to find a 1st gen truck around here. Out of everything I have called on, chyrslers been cheaper than the junkyards(with my criteria). Front fenders and bumpers, great quality and 2 dollars more than shipping them a cheap flimsy aftermarket place for example. Anywho, thanks for the new rule that I didnt know about! :D

Ok, you get a pass on this one;).
