Competition Hood Stack and Street Legality

I installed a pipe out the hood of a friends truck here in Georgia, and he never was stopped for anything related to the stack. It took a little redesign work working with his twins. That stack really put out the black smoke with the 700+ HP. I do believe the law says the exhaust has to exit at or behind the front window/windshield, and with his, I can see why.



I guess with the sight law, as for as the air freshner, I suppose I could be cited for the same thing with the gauge pod on my dash. It sits in the center right above the radio. But then it's no worse than the A pillar. Seems a little dumb to me anyway.

What's worse is the air freshener is an American Flag! ! I was dumbfounded at first to say the least... .....

Here is something else to consider. I was talking to a fella with a hood stack that drove his truck frequently on the highway and I asked how he liked it. I believe his response was "I love it except after a few minutes of driving, my eyes start to burn. " :-laf

I would think you could make a more progressive bend going down than going up out of the hood. why not exit behind the front tire. or out the fender. then if you have an external gate. yo ucan exit right next to it

Here's a question... Our new pulling class up here in Ontario just alowed twins but the exaust has to exit up thru the hood. Being a daily driver with the HP and the Mods to compete..... does anyone know of an easy way to set up the twins that I can either use the downpipe or a turn up thru the hood. I think that twins set up side by side would work good for this meaning that the large charger would be mounted over the fender where the airbox was there for making it have easy to get to the down pipe and clamps.



Does anyone have any pictures of how most hood stacks are set up?

Ohio guys seem to get away with it. Possibly, because the Ohio Gestapo is so busy writing speeding tickets, they don't have time for obstrcution of view.

I used to be an OSP Aux. Trooper.

Actually the facts are the OSP will write WARNING tickets on Speed (within reason). What they are EXTREMELY hard on is Drunk Drivers and Seat Belt Violations.

Hood Stacks would probably be viewed as "Probable Cause" to pull you over though. So you BEST have your seat belt on or they WILL nail you for it !!!

I don't know the legality of it here, but I WOULD like to do a Hood Stack as well !!

BTW, for the (7) years I worked with the OSP I have NEVER witnessed a Trooper write a Vehicle Defect ticket (other than license plate lights) or do a roadside vehicle inspection!

Ohio is rediculous when it comes to vehicle inspections and enforcement IMHO. I see folks ROUTINELY running around with BALD tires, broken/non-function tailights, NO hoods, No fenders, No bumpers etc... . Ridiculous!! I come from PA where you can NOT have whole in the body greater than the diameter of dime!

Ok, Im going to do it, Ive got a hood from a friend and I looked on diesel Dynamics site for a elbow but couldnt find it. Any links? tips? Im going to do this when I get my HTT manifold so I can finally put my turbo on. It should look pretty sweet with a hood stack. I know Ill be the only one around with one!!!

No hand guard on bed stack. Nice fellas.
