Dodge/Cummins commercial use?

P-pump for 4BT

You know that 07 twin turbo truck is going to have lots of problems and be a big mess to work on. Expensive and very complicated. I like Mike91 on the DieselStop site, he hates overcomplication like me haha

I like the guy that says he's had enough trouble with his 3 - 6. 0 trucks so he can't wait to get the new one. He ends by saying "What else is there?"

Nothing, Pal. Not a thing. :-laf

That's one case of severe brand loyalty! That's like one of us having 3 lemon 3rd gen 03s and going to buy an 07 common rail cause it's newer and better. Of course, that hasn't happened to any Dodge owners like it has to the Ford owners. Cummins are built to last. Powerstrokes are built to last half as long.

I like the guy who says he does not want to pay for overhauling 2 turbos. Must know that it will die out of the box.

I don't understand what FURD does with their trucks, the International engines are not that troublesome (Example of the 444e, it is a good motor in any other chasis, but the ones FURD touched, turned into junk).

Just don't get it, why do you need a twin out of the box, I am sure you could just use a single larger turbo to achieve the same, with out the extra cost of engineering and production. I can't believe that those motors are pushing that kind of fuel to really justify that.

My vote is that there will be one turbo per side. That way you can have a smaller (quicker spool) turbo and still get the same or even greater flow.

I talked to a buddy of mine who just took his cousins cougar to a big Ford dealership and he is good buddies with the service manager there, who just got back from a training seminar back east and he told him that the new motor will be in the 400-425 HP range, with twin turbos and common rail (which we already know). But he also said that Navistar didnt have the contract yet and Ford may be trying to work with John Deere on another venture? I guess we will have to wait and see, But I am betting the JD thing is BS.

"My question is are these supposed twin turbos going to be run in parallel (one for each bank: read sweet) or series where one feeds the next (lame). "

Yeah too bad most the "lame" twin-turbo Cummins trucks could whip those PSDs!

In my opinion (and I'm not trying to flame you here), electronic assemblies are a lot less complicated than mechanical ones. Case in point: distributorless ignition.

I'd wager a guess that it'll be 1 turbo per bank rather than 2 turbos in series... packaging might be a little more convenient in a symmetrical arrangement like that rather than a giant mass of plumbing. The turbos could be tucked un beneath the cylinder banks.

I replaced a 6. 0 turbo today... . 125 miles on the truck, it didn't even make it through a couple test drives. I'll stick with cummins :) I'm working at the ford stealership now as a diesel mechanic and I think its safe to say I won't be owning a stroke.

Please provide us your perspective on how wide spread the problems are. It is hard to get a true sense over at TDS or FTE. Those boys are way too sensitive. I personally believe that it is more than just a chance that we have an '03 and an '05 with severe problems; but who knows.

I bet the FURD guys love the Dodge with the CUMMINS sitting in the lot. :D

And as for the ford guy that said "What else is there" go to your local Dodge dealer smart one.

sequential turbos means one then another... not one INTO another...

think RX7 and Supra

but with the money they've spent on variable nozzle tech, I'd guess they're going to run one per bank.

got a buddy who's a diesel tech at a local Ford dealership. he's replaced head gaskets on two trucks in the last month that had less than 200 miles on them! last one they lifted the body off the chasis as it was the easiest way to do both heads. Ford reps were out there taking pictures and investigating.

I believe the six liter is a good motor, but some just have problems. Unfortunatly many of the trucks I've seen so far (only two weeks now) have common problems like bad turbos, injectors, and rear mainseals which make the motor seem unreliable. But if they didn't break then I wouldn't have a job, so I guess it is good they are having some problems. :)

Driving a cummins to the dealership every morning to work on chokes is very therapudic, I recommend it to everyone. :) :) :)

"Seem unreliable" ????

Sounds like you are wearing blue oval glasses like the guys in the thread that had 2 and 3 6. 0's but still love them.
