Horn gremlin

Last night I heard the horn chirp on my truck. I thought that was kind of wierd. However, this morning the horn went off and I could not shut it off. I had to pull the fuse. Anyone know what might cause this condition?

In a recent TDR magazine they showed the schematic of the horn "system" on the 3rd generations as an example of how complicated things are on modern day trucks. The horn is controlled through the truck's computer now. You push horn, the signal goes through 2 or 3 relays and the computer before it honks now. So it could be anything. Your not leaning on the panic button on the remote are ya? I did this once and it scared the hell out of me. Is the truck locking itself when you hear the horn honk? Mine honks when I use the remote to lock it but it obviously doesn't stay on... Just some food for thought. I hadn't heard of your scenario happening before.

I sometimes lean on the panic button when its in my pocket, or the kids find my keys. Since I installed my air horns, I had to find a better hiding place for my keys

If it continues that have to fix it fast... that is a safety issue.

Any body have the schematic for the horns? I just bought a Hadley air horn kit, and that would come in real handy for the install.

Mine was stuck on for 4 hours. I had to pull the fuse as well. The dealership told me that it was the " Clock Spring " in the stearing column. It has not done it since. Hope this helps.

My churp was my wife locking my keys in the truck as she was leaving for work one morning. to much s--- in her purse, including my 2nd fob. Took it back, and give her a key.

Thanks guys for your replies. I don't even use my keyless remote. It was in a drawer when this happened. Also it did not honk in a sequence like the panic button does. It was just on. I plugged the fuse back in 15 minutes later and it did not come back on. It has not done it all day today. I would have to rule out the clock spring because the truck was not even moving when this all happened.

Mine was parked in the driveway after getting the first oil change. I took a mid afternoon nap and my wife heard a horn honking and thought that it was the neighbors. She ignored it while I was sleeping and then a friend came over about 4 hours after it started and told me that my truck horn was stuck on. I went out there and smacked the steering wheel and it stopped for about 15 seconds. Then I pulled the fuse. Truck was not moving when it happened.

Well since ours did the same thing. I guess it must be the clock spring. That is really wierd.

I had the clock spring replaced and this did not work. The DRB indicated that the horn switch was in the closed position. What would cause this to intermittently stay closed? The dealer is just guessing at things now.

I opened up my remotes and disabled my panic buttons. (can't remember, but I think I insulated the contacts with something)

That wouldn't be the culprit. I don't use my remotes. It even did it at the dealership. Thanks anyway! Anybody else have any ideas?

My buddy's brand new 04 started doing this. Would start all by itself. Dealer said the cluster showed errors and they replaced that but it continues to do it. He ended up pulling the fuse. The dealer is now looking at the clockspring or the pad switch. I think now they are guessing. It is a steady horn as opposed to the on off sounding horn of the alarm system. If anyone out there has any more ideas I would appreciate it as he is getting desperate.

Did you try replacing the horn relay in the fuse box under the hood? Even if it's computer controlled with 5 modules and 10 switches in the end it still only tells the relay to make contact. Relays have been known to go bad. I'm not sure that would explain the DRB saying the switch was closed though.

Well, I have an 04 only 2 weeks old and mine is doing the same thing when parked in my driveway. In addition, it sounds the horn for about 1 second at 6:37 am EVERY morning... go figure. Neighbors don't think its amusing! Now the horn sounds and continues to sound until I pull the fuse. If I let the truck sit for 1/2 hour I can put the fuse in and the alarm seems to work fine... for about 12 hours. Now I just keep the horn fuse in the glovebox! Am trying to make a dealer appointment today.

Horn Gremlin - Any Solution?

Original post was for horn coming on periodically (not beeping or chirping). My 2004. 5 started doing it after about three months. Hitting the horn switch on the steering wheel turns mine off... until it does it again. Only fix posted so far seems to be pulling the fuse. Has anyone found a more acceptable solution? I haven't taken mine to the dealer yet. I was hoping someone here would have found a solution. I'm sure the dealer will only be guessing.
