Are you TDR. members up to the CHALLENGE? Can you tell me how to fix or change the horn switch in the air bag on my 98 dodge 3500 pickup without having to replace the whole airbag assembly. I have the airbag out of the vehicle. Can it be done? HELP!!!!

From what I see in my Factory Repair Manual for my '99, it looks like you can replace just the membrane switch.

"There should be continuity between the horn switch feed wire and the horn switch ground wire" when depressing center of airbag module trim cover. "If not OK, replace the faulty horn switch. "

However, it doesn't tell HOW to replace it! The diagram shows "locking blocks" top and bottom and "retainer slots" top right and top left. Based on that it looks like it snaps in place. The diagram makes it look like the membrane switch is almost as big as the airbag module.

Thank you ED I will take a closer look at and see weather I want to tackle it or not. I don't know if I can buy just the switch if I do get it apart.

Mine is an 01 so it may be different. You cant change just the membrane switch (per my manual) you have to buy the module cover (for my 01 they want 285 for it) but that is just the cover not the entire module. I want my horn back but may just wire in a seperate switch for that amount of money.

I want to thank all of you for your input.

Since I posted my thread I disscoverd how to remove the cover (horn switch) from the air bag but I'm unable to buy the switch by itself. They make you purchase the airbag and switch as a complete assembly maybe the 98 is a little different than the 01. I was however able to locate an assembly from the wrecking yard for $85. 00. Stiil seems quit high for a horn switch.

Thanks Dslover
