today i picked up a fellow 3rd gen cummins owner off of the side of the highway, he said his truck was running rough and was making a bad sound, sounds like it dropped a valve to me, what do you guys think, it didnt sound like fuel knock, it sounded metal to metal to me i made him shut it down and i drug it up onto the trailer and towed him to my house, i will deliver the truck to the dealership on monday morning, the truck has 59,000 miles on it, not sure if it will be denied warranty because it has a 4'' lift 35'' tires and has a boost, two pyros, and a fuel pressure guage, also has 5'' straight pipe exhaust,

Cummins can't even see the codes on 3rd gens :(

Most of their Techs ARE certified from Cummins,Not DC puppets,You can come Up here and check out WBL (White Bear Lake Cummins). Most Certified dealers I Know of Have the DRB III or equivalent. Midwest Diesel,Diesel Injection Service, etc.

TWest-

What's the next best equivalent to the DRB3?

TCluff-

Cummins Rocky Mountain doesn't have the DRB3 (at least the last time I was there 2 months ago getting my high pressure fuel problems fixed). They said they have to bring their trucks into Dale White just to tell them the obvious.

Good chance he dropped a valve seat. What year is it, does it have a miss when it runs? I am changing my head right now because of valve seat drop. If it is a 03 or 04 they don't like high EGTS and are prone to that problem.

Obviously, For Programing Nothing, for Reading codes and some Bi-directional operations, Snapon, Otc/SPX,Actron,Matco,Mac, and others would get the Job Done,I like our Solus it up to 05 Cummins and Does some Programing,We Do have a DRB III.

Does DC have the customers interest at Heart With this Type of Repair,They instruct the TECH to shop for a excuse to deny the repair,Fuel, the appearance of something, over boost code, etc. Once at the Dealer the Tech will be instruct to connect to Star the available History will be down load than erase, so the customer WILL NOT HAVE A SECOND OPPORTUNITY to have it inspect and check by some one else,Now if the customer empty"s the Data DC get"s all ****** off. So its good judgment to have it (with this type of failure) prior to the Dealer.

Also when you mod you take the risk of repairs Being denied ( so Mod safely)
