The Most Powerful Diesel in the World

Hi all!

Looking back, it was funny. As for that pipe, I used to keep a 10 ft chunk of 2-1/2" just for that purpose. Someone didn't know why it was in the garage and threw it out. :(

I favor chain thru pipe method because the towed vehicle stays at the proper distance and doesn't need to have full braking power.

Maybe by tomorrow, I can laugh as loud as anyone. Right now, there is a measured level of levity around here ;)

John, thanks for a great story! Reminds me of a similar experience when my lift pump died and I was stranded in N. Central Oregon. Got towed by another NW Bomber member Muddymess about 80 miles and had the thrill of going 65mph only 6 feet off of his back bumper  The scariest part was when he hit the throttle in 4th gear and broke the back end loose  Then there was the semi we passed on that 2-lane highway

Posted about it here on NW Bombers. . . (scroll down to middle of page, long post) http://www.nwbombers.com/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=13;t=2607;st=15

Sounds like something my wife would do. Last november My father was out finishing picking up leavs and his trany blew on his 93 1500 gasser. He comes to the house and pulles me away from putting up 4,000 christmas light ( yup call me Clark). His truck was on the side of the road and he had the 12' trailer with the tracter and the track vac on it I say ok unhook the trailer i will pull the truck forword and pull the trailer home then come back for the truck. Nope they must bolth go at the same time Im told. So I hook up a 10' tow rope and start the 3 mile ride home yay.

I make a turn and rope falls off where he had hooked it up he is now in the middle of the road. After being hollerd at by some freindly drivers we get his truck out of the road and on the way home the last o 1/4 mile or so i think he wanted to see if i could still pull him while he is standing on the brakes. Finaly got home and I am now looking for a good nursing home to send dad to.

Maybe you should have used a rope. At least it would have been quiet when she jumped on the gas every time. Would want to attract attention would ya? Do it again, this time charge a passenger for the ride. Will pay for the seat cleaning.

'85 Silverado is ole reliable once again!

Well,

The Silverado and I survived the ordeal and can look back and have a laugh or too.

The VM told me 12 V+ was going to the HEI connector, but a spare plug and wire said, no go...

The plugs, wires and cap were replaced a couple months back. I just bought a new HEI coil and module without even wondering which one died.

Put 'er all back together and vacuumed the floor out from last year's accumulation of Arizona dust.

One click and she was bellering and raring to go once again.

Funny thing that ole truck. I bought it right after a divorce in '99 left me the shirt and socks and my hand tools. NADA else. lost it all.

Gave that man $1200 bux because he said it "has a rod knock and ain't long for this world".

Well, that knock is still a knockin', but to me it is a lifter cause it dissappears about 5 minutes after you start it up. Speedo never worked so miles don't mean nothing. Jest drive 'er... ...

John,

Your story was frickin' hilarious. I had an old 84 Celica, it broke a water pump about 50 miles from home. I was 16 or 17. My dad came with a rope and like an 88 Grand Am with the Quad 4 (heck of a good 4 banger in those days, especially for GM). He kept it to about 40 mph, and I used the parking/hand brake to keep the rope mostly taught. It worked real good. He accelerated/decelerated very slowly ... we made a good team. I can't imaging doing that with a woman. I think my dad was surprised I was able to do as he said, as well as I did ... he was happy. Put a water pump on the next day and it was good to go.

I T-boned a guy's car he was pulling with a chain in that same 84 Celica in 1999. That was the end of the Celica.

Ol'TrailDog - Can someone post a link to the story you were talking about. See below. It sounds like a hoot, I'd love to read about it.

Ha... ha, what a hoot. Almost as good as the boat trailer fiasco MCed by another CTD wife
