Need Help Trailer Light wiring!!!

Gentlemen,

I'd like to increase the horsepower on a 1992 Bounder with a 5. 9L Cummins. Currently, the horsepower is 190, but would like to increase to approximately 275hp. What's available in the performance market to get it there?

The coach has a Pac brake installed inline with the exhaust and the torque converter has been changed-out with a BD torque converter to support the exhaust brake.

Appreciate any input you may have. Thanks.

Hey Mods, I think this thread will work better someplace else.

Dwayne, do you know what vintage engine is in your coach? Is it the same as the engines in the first gen dodge trucks, that have the VE injection pump? If it does then you need to come over to the First Gen Forums, and we can help. ;)

If it has an inline, or P7100 pump then you should go see the second gen guys, and they can help you.

275 Hp should not be much of a problem, depending on what the gross vehicle weight is. I'm running 235 hp/586 torque and tow upwards of 29,000# with my VE pumped first gen. Heat on the pyro prevents me from putting more fuel in right now.

MMiller,

Appreciate your response... and you're correct, I placed the thread in the wrong forum. I PM'd the moderator and asked for this thread to be moved to the "tow, haul, and RV forum". Thanks.

Michael,

Sorry it took so long to respond... I was out of town for a few days.

The pump is definitely a Bosch inline injection pump. Based on the data contained on the pump it's a PE type.

First gen Dodge trucks used the VE (distributor type) like you mentioned, and the second gen Dodge trucks (12 valve) used the P7100 (inline type). Although the Bounder is a 1992 model with a Cummins 5. 9L, it has an inline pump on the engine.

It appears the PE is different than the P7100, though similar in design and function. Not sure what makes them different, application possibly?

I know there are different ways to gain the additional horsepower we're (RV belongs to a friend) looking for; fueling plate, injectors, etc, etc. I'm not sure what others have done to their RVs to get the horsepower we're after. Therefore, we want to draw from other's experience... use what's tried and true.

I'm pretty sure the turbo will need some upgrade, the compressor housing looks small. My friend provided me the info off the turbo; Holset WH1C. I'm not sure what the specs are on this turbo, to include what boost this turbo can safely produce. Lots of unanswered questions.

I'd appreciate any info you can provide. Thanks.

I think anybody that tell's you how to upgrade that engine, is going to kill it for you. I would definitely have to see it.

Preston,

I understand your reply as I'm proceeding cautiously with this modification (if at all). The weight of my friends RV, to include vehicle in tow, far exceeds that of a Dodge/Cummins truck. That's why I'm soliciting the expertise of those who have done it, or can direct me to those who have.

I know there are options to pursue, but at what cost? If we can increase horsepower to 250-275, without jeopardizing engine/transmission, he'd be thrilled. During our quest, I'll continue to research and ask questions. My friend purchased the RV relatively cheap and can withstand investing a few thousand to make the modification. If too expensive, he'll have to live with current horsepower or sell it to get what he needs/wants.

Thanks.
