On a 96 automatic with a 180hp pump, how much power can be produced by turning the governor lever screw almost all of the way in leaving a thread showing outside of the lock nut? The guy is running stock injectors, and turbo and exhaust, and being when he pulled the sled at the fair and 48 psi of boost on his boost gauge he thinks he has 480 hp? Is every pound of boost 10 horsepower on these cummins 5. 9? What are your thoughts?

Boost and Hp

More boost does not necessarily mean more hp. There needs to be a balance of what the engine can swallow vs fuel and intake charge temps and probably a few other things to consider.

I read an article recently where they simply changed to a larger carb and decreased the boost and created more Hp.

Really if you think about it boost is back pressure so if you can stream line the system from beginning to end you could create more Hp with less boost. Along with boost comes a dramatic temp increase in the intake charge as well.

I'm sure someone here has more knowledge of this then I do!
