Can anyone tell me why dodge dropped the Horsepower and torque on the cab and chassis? Longevity?? I don't get it. The heavier truck gets less power.

I read the reasoning as this. The cab and chassis trucks are sold as workhorses only, and the "commercial" market may not care so much about advertised hp/tq like the private owners do. Also, they speculate that, as the truck will be sold as a workhorse only, it will see a higher "duty" cycle than a family owned truck. They lowered the output slightly to make it last when being worked hard all the time.

I'm certain that keeping everything cool also comes into play with the derate. I agree with the statement about "duty cycle" and commercial use.

Duty Cycle, plan and simple. Every engine is rate that way. The harder it works, the lower the power. For example, Cummins marine engines. The 5. 9CR marine engine has many different duty cycles. The hardest duty is something like 180 to 200 hp and governed to about 2200rpm, but it can run full throttle 24/7/365. The "recreation" engine duty cycle is about 450hp and 3200 rpm, I think, but is only rated to run that for 18% of the time (one hour out of every 6, as the web page states). Run that motor at 450 all the time and it just isn't going to give the rated service life.
