i have an 01 quad cab4x4 6 speed ho with a 4in exhaust and a k&n air filter i am looking for 325 to 350 hp there are so many ways to accomplish this i am looking for advice on the best and cheapest way to get it i do not want to modify my clutch or melt the engine there to expensive and i cant afford a new one

You may not be able to achieve 350 HP with the stock clutch. At least not for long. IMO, if you cross about 320 HP, you are going to need a clutch due to the increases in torque that came with the HP increases. At 350HP, you will probably be making over 700 pounds of torque.

You can add a TST box and every # (0-9) adds about 13hp. Get the one with the remote unit with egt gauge. It will save your clutch for awhile but the first time you go above level 5 you will need a new clutch/pressure plate.

350rwhp is about the max a stock 6-speed clutch will take. At that HP level though, the stock turbo will not flow enough air to support the EGT's if you plan to tow with the truck.

You would need gauges (pyro/boost), airbox (like AFE), 4" exhaust, turbo upgrade, EZ/TTPM and Stage 2 injectors. That should give you a good, useable 330-350rwhp.

Before I added the comp to my truck it dynoed at 325HP 700TQ and everything was fine with the stock clutch. I added the comp W/O tapping the pump and slipped the clutch within 100 miles. Now with the comp off and only in boost fooler mode I am able to slip it. My southbend came in today, I just have to go get it. I will also do the pump wire as soon as my Wildcat Max flow kit arrives. Jake

Stock clutches are like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get  Some have slipped with just the addition of an EZ. Others, like mine (knock on wood) seem to hold more power. I have tried to be very kind to my clutch, while saving for a CON OFE.

Remember, your right foot controls hp, torque, and the resultant EGT.

Sounds about right. The Comp on level 1 (or any level really - as long as the pump wire is disconnected) should make ~40hp gain. 325 + 40 = over 350.

See signature for my mods. We tow a 13,500 lb 5th wheel that puts us on the road at 21,180 lbs GCW (21,500 lbs GCWR). With all engine mods except the DD2 injectors, the stock clutch held up fine. The day the DD2's went in, my wife managed to slip the stock clutch running empty by nailing the throttle at 1800 RPM in 5th :( - thus, the South Bend Con OFE clutch.

As was said, some stock clutches will hold with the EZ/DD2 combo - but mine didn't. Budget accordingly. ;)

CMast,

I installed a power puck on my truck and the clutch held just fine, but as soon as I put injectors in it, that was a different story. I slipped the clutch as soon as I hit 5th gear. If you really baby the clutch it may last awhile, but for the kind of hp your wanting, it will not last long.
