I have a question for you Horton users. The instructions say to run the "U" shaped bracket and the Wiring Harnes between the radiator and the shroud. Does this work out ok, (both asthetically and functionally) or should the top of the shroud be notched just a bit to allow easier passage?

Also, if anyone has any pointers to ease installation, please give a hollar. It seems pretty basic, but who knows ... .....

Thanks a lot,

Rich

Horton install

I knotched the schroud to get it to set back in to place.

nylon tie wire harnass down. MOST inportant! engineers missed this one. Everythin is mounted and in place test and works fine w/over ride switch. .

Now before shutting the hood lets say your are out in the middle of no were and all you have is a 3/8's wrechet and a new fan drive belt in hand and a missing one on the eng.

IF you check out the newly installed kit you will find you cant install the new belt with out pulling the wire harness completely too install the belt in your hand!!!

Soultion, get a two wire weather pac connector (male & female) and approx 3" from where the wire comes thru the schroud and goes to the drivers side cut the wire harness and install the said connector body's for ease of belt replacement later!!!!

Yes I cut a notch out of my shroud just to make it lie down a bit nicer. A couple of disappointing things about the install on mine were that the high pressure switch for the freon lies really sits close to the lube oil filter. I had to buy a nylon strapwrench to get in there after wards.

Also the main power connection to the bus had its ring connection fastened around the insulation allowing only an intermittant connection. Once I got that sorted out it worked well. The sudden load sure gives the engine a jerk though, especially at high speed when it's most likely to cut in.

We've just been to AZ with 100F plus temps and a 5000# trailler. It would rarely cut in due to water temp except on a long 6% grade at full power after a few minnutes. Running the AC will bring it on in just a few seconds.

The disconnect for the clutch sounds like a really good idea!

Do those of you with the Horton fan on the new ISB's have the air conditioning pressure switch? My fan is off of my '94 with the R12 refrigerant, I can't seem to find a pressure switch anywhere for the 134A refrigerant. I've even called Horton directly, no help whatsoever. If any of you have the pressure switch for the 134a, I would appreciate a brand and part number if possible.

Thanks,

Jerry

Press sw.

the pressure sw for freon 12 & 134 can be used for eather. press diff is not that much from one to the other, use the old one. Same

You can't use the old one, the threads to screw it on are totally different, one is outside threads, like a bolt, the other is inside threads like a nut, and they are different sizes. I can't find an adapter anywhere to use my old pressure switch.

If anybody could give me the part number of the new 134a pressure switch, I would appreciate it.

Powder Extreme,

Go to your local International truck dealer and get your R134A switch for your Horton. The Horton is standard equipment on most International class 8 trucks. The R134A switch will be the same as what you need. When I had my Horton, I picked up Horton parts at my local International dealer and they had 'em in stock.

The Hortons on the Internationals have air activated clutches where yours is electric. The electric sensors and switches are the same. You may have to change the wire terminals to match the switch.

Good luck

Bill

Horton Instal

Thanks everyone for your input. It helped clear things up.

Shooter!

I bought mine from Scheid Diesel in Ill. and I paid $ 394. 95 for the fan clutch, $95. 35 for the fan blade, and $ 294. 70 for the parts kit for the 94 through 98 trucks. (parts, harness etc)

Hope this helps.

Bill, I never figured the 134a in a semi was the same as in the pickup. Excellent idea!! I know Horton is used on a ton of Big Trucks, I should be able to find one. There isn't an International dealer near here, but we do have a Fruitliner and a K-Wobbler ;)

Thanks!

Jerry

switche's

Big rigs/little rigs dont make a hill of beans in thedifferance in parts used,a/c is a/c. the threads /female/male and normaly open or closed is the only differance ,Hi side /lo side is the the same in all ac systems.

Horton ???'s

Did a little recon on the 5. 9 tonight in preparation for a maybe install of a Horton fan. And naturally I have a few questions.

1) How important is the slotted 7/8" deep socket for installing the water temp sensor in the block?

2) IF the BFH/punch route doesn't work for loosening up the 1 7/16" clutch retaining nut, it appears that a "standard" combo wrench wouldn't fit. A "thin" version would be needed? Correct?

3) Are the factory fan blades re-used or is a fan blade assembly included w/the kit?

Thanks!

Tim

Tim, 1)the sensor socket will make life easier, only $8 from the auto parts.

2) in over 30 fan removals, '94-'98, I've performed the drift trick has always worked, my 1-1/2" open end has always fit, maybe because it's cheap. I know it's 1-7/16" but I don't have one. Removing two of the 10mm pulley bolts will give you more room if necessary.

3) Never installed a Horton, assume it comes with blades.

slotted socket

At the risk of appearing ignorant, I had no idea that such a socket was commercially available. I kinda thought that I'd have to make my own. Something that I definitely wasn't looking forward to doing!

I take it that these sockets are available at a good auto parts store?

As far as a large combo wrench, I'm sure that I can borrow that from a farmer buddy here. :)

Thanks ifflem!
