Host facillity problems - system slowdowns, email notifications temporarily disabled

I just got a note from our host facility that they are having power problems affecting parts of the facility. Here is the note:

Please be advised that a power panel controlling a portion of the Data Center is having intermittent problems. This is only affecting a portion of the Data Center and not the entire facility. At this time the panel has been powered down while electricians repair the problem. Please be advised that over the next 60 minutes we will be making power modifications to correct the issues at hand. During this time some of you may experience difficulty accessing your website or server, however we are working diligently to correct the problem at hand. Thank you for

your patience.

It looks like the DNS server that we use is in the affected portion of the facility. That will cause slow performance when posting replies at times. When you post a reply the system sends out emails to every that's asked for notifications on that post. If the DNS server isn't available that process times out because it can't look up the address. This can take some time if there are a lot of people on that list.



I have turned email notifications off temporarily until they get the problem resolved. This should alleviate most of the problems. It's possible that there may be intermittent problems due to other things than this however. Hopefully they will have the problem fixed soon.

Holy E-mail notifications, Batman!

Is this problem "over notifying" me of replies to suscribed threads? (I know that Gary is very knowlegable of our trucks, but I was notified 17 times from his response to a thread!) It was obvously repeated several times but there was actually only 1 reply that he posted.

It could. It can cause all sorts of wierd things I've found. Part of the problem is when it's slow people will often click submit multiple times to "force" it to go through - which then creates multiple copies of their post and we have to go back through and delete the duplicates.

@ 1:50 pm to get a exhaust tip from the pay it forward section and now I see somebody else posted to receive it after he posted a pay pal and they paid with pay pal. I hope this problem did not cause me to louse out.

No it wouldn't have as long as you received the processed message - if you aborted it before you got that message then it could.



I have turned email notification back on as it seems they've taken care of the problem. Let me know if you have any problems and I'll turn it back off.

Steve- I recieved the notification to your most recent reply in this thread. seems to be working as normal with me. That previous inquiry as I stated above must have been a fluke. Thanks for the great work. You make it too easy to log- on during the day! My work production at the office has decrased since joining TDR
