If you read the RokkTech sensor thread... a lot of us (including myself) have seen just the opposite... less smoke.

Just FYI,

you have to floor the accelerator 10 different times.
I should probably clarify what I said about the smoke, I just did mine and haven't seen any difference in smoke yet. The reason I said to move it back was when you said you had to mash the pedal down where the engine would see peak torque. I was reading about that on this page where part way down there is a chart on timing changes & effects.

Maybe if you can keep RPM's down on the throttle stab by not holding the smoke will actually be less based on that chart.

MATT400,

I just did my "tone ring mod", this afternoon. Your advice about using a higher gear & the parking brake worked beautifully. Thanks again, for the help.

Regarding smoke, I didn't notice any more, if any, on full acceleration. I see what you mean about not going to full acceleration (peak torque) during the test. That might work. Worst case scenario, loosening up the bolts & moving the tone ring back to it's stock position would not be a terrible job. Pretty simple, actually.

The results I noticed from this modification are: The engine idles and seems to run a bit smoother. There is a mild increase in power & acceleration. Probably not at all like installing a box, I'm sure. But, never the less, a slight, cheap increase for relatively little effort & cost.

I had to buy a 15mm socket at the local pawn shop ($1. 50) & a ******* (who ever came up with that name), round file ($2. 15). So, for a total of $3. 65/with tax & a little effort, I think this mod is well worth it.

Again, there is a very mild increase in performance. The engine seems to wind up faster & seems to be smoother doing it.

Matt, so what's different after the mod? How does it Feel? MPGs the works.

Hard to say just yet cuz I have only driven 30 miles since doing it. I will put some more miles on this weekend, on my way out the door right now.

It sounds smoother almost like it lost some power but I don't think so, probably in my head due to the sound change. Just a tad longer crank times seems like.

Ok, I did a bunch more driving this weekend and wanted to post back.

It does sound smoother at idle but maybe just a little more noisy under power, not knocking or anything like that, just a subtle change in tone.

I did a mileage test and its up 1. 5 mpg so I guess I will leave it as is for now.

On my 03 the hand calc and overhead was always super close but have found my 05 is not the same and am ashamed to admit I have made some posts here about the 05's mileage being good. Its actually 1 mpg less than my 03 was- (hand calc) and thats after this mod.

As for the overhead on the 05 this mod seems to have brought it closer to actual but its still reading too high. It was reading 1. 6mpg too high and now reads 1. 1mpg too high. I have Spooled Ups fuel tank vent mod so I fill till I see fuel in the neck.

Well after 2763 miles, I have an average of 14. 5 mpg (hand calc) of all around driving. That is about the same as what I was getting before the Rokktech and Tone Ring mod.

I haven't been on any road trips to check highway mileage.

One thing I can say is the low end get-up-&-go is great. It has really made a difference in that area! Haven't noticed any pinging with this setup. It would be nice to make a dyno run to see if there is any difference.

I honestly thought I was going to get worst mileage average than that and was prepared to retard the RokkTech timing, but seeing that the mileage is about the same and the low-end power and response is greatly improved, I think I will leave it for now and see the results on a road trip.

There saying that if you advance both the tone ring and sencer, you loose out some fuel milage, that you shouldn't advance more then 2 degrees. Do on or the other but not both. Oo.

Hmmmm, maybe I'll install the stock crank sensor and see if that make a difference in mileage. I know that the low end will not be as good as with both mods, already experienced that.
