Boat Engine Options

I'm looking at building a street rod. I want a basic kit car to build. Anyone know of good sites and info??

Looking at a T-Bucket, but open to other ideas.

pick up a copy of a custom magazine, there are tons of kits available. I went to the Hot Rod industry show in Indianapolis in Jan. It was amazing the tons and tons of stuff out there. Just start doing a search and you'll be overwhelmed.

The most common were the 32 coupes. Lots to choose from. Hope this helps.

This is where I bought 95% of the parts to build my 32. I didn't buy a "kit", but I pieced mine together. Bought a Pete & Jake's frame (Ford 9" rear with transverse spring, dropped front axle with transverse spring, set up for small block Chevy and M21 4-speed) and the body came from Gibbon. All the other pieces I picked out of the catalog.

Mark: I swear on my Grand Daddy's grave... if you put a Chevy small block and a TH-350 in that thing...

Be different - slap a diesel in it. Anything but the same old 350cid/TH-350.

I stopped going to car shows for that reason - nobody ever does anything cool with the drivetrain... same old crap repeated 1000's of times...

Ya think that whimpy little leaf spring in the front will hold a Cummins...

I actually have a Chrysler 318 to rebuild and drop into whatever.

This is just going to be something to get me wet behind the ears, that's why I'm looking for a kit.

I have an idea for a street rod with a diesel. (It's a secret) :D

I am actually thinking of De-BOMBING the Dodge to make way for a rod...

Pheeeewww.. . Okay... that's better. :)

I figured the next thing I'd see you post would be:

"Sold the dually... bought a Tundra... "

TMTT is bound to make some BIG HP someday... if he doesn't do it with the "Big White Jerkmobile" - he'll do it with something else.

I know what you mean Matt. I built my car to mimmick a movie car, so I didn't have many options. I did run a 383 small block Chevy (bored and stroked 350) with an old Man-A-Fre intake and 4 2bbl Rochesters. I've been through those carbs so many times I can do it in my sleep.

If I had my choice of power plants (or if I do this again) I want to use something like a flathead Ford or a 392 Hemi.

My opinion ... I put my apache pickup on hold because I got sick of shows where the best engineered vehicle was a small block chevy with the most chrome parts. I like the smaller shows where people roll-up in primer vehicle's or body panels missing and the drive train is a mix of over thing they could find in the bone yard.

if I ever can find the time and $$ to finish my apache pickup this will be the motivation... http://www.sonnysracingengines.com/flyers/sar565.php

Dan said: "You just need to go to the *right* car shows. "

Yeah, but when you hear about a show or read a poster... they don't exactly say what the show cars have for drivetrains. :D

I'd like to see some of that cool stuff, Dan... might make me want to start attending more car shows.

That's a statement that would surely get me to read their magazine.

Deo and I have always dreamed of a T-Bucket with a 2-stroke Detroit 3-53 in it.

There are some 3-53's with aluminum blocks... AND you can put a REAL ENGINE BRAKE on 'em (off a 6V-53... )... play with the governor so that it has a NASTY idle and you're good to go.
