New used travel trailer?

Torque on Trailer Ball?

I guess thats what you call them. Who uses there 24V Automatics for that. What does it take to become one and where do you find out where the loads are at that need to be shipped. Example: Cars for dealerships, lumber, etc. Im looking for info about doing this in the lower 48's.

Anybody know where i can get some info on smaller trucks like ours that do this. Not big rigs. I wanna know about trucks our size and people that run companys. Id like to know the rules and regs also. Any help?

Did you try to get in touch with either MBurke or Yogi. I know for a fact that MBurke uses a 3500 to hotshot, and I would guess that Yogi does too. Just shoot oen or both of them a PM explaning your intent and I'm sure they will be glad to assist you in answering your questions. :)

Hot Shot

Puffin Smoke;

Not sure if I could help with "hot shot" as down here the term refers to oilfield quick delivery of small items.

I work for a company that delivers Teton 5ers and also delivers Chinok motorhomes via trailers all over the country. We have 2 longnose and 1 cabover Freightshakers, but the bulk of the deliveries are done by our pickups (8). If I can help or if you would like to know more about the industry my E-Mail is -- email address removed --. I also have a Forest River--36' All American Sport toy hauler.

Best of luck, Nightwing

That would be great Nightwing. Im thinking about starting out with the truck I have and buy a goosneck. My question is besides the cost of a truck and trailer and getting my CDL which I need right? What are my expenses starting out for like liscenses, etc? What do I need to do first after I get my CDL. FCrawford says I can get my CDL with my Truck and trailer. Is that correct? Do you lease with a company or are you your own company? What do you make a mile? What kind of medical insurance do you have if any? What are the do's and dont's of getting started? Where are you from. Im heading to California next week. Im moving there for a bit and would love to find somebody in that area and maybe ride with them or have them show me a few things. Im heading to Fresno.

Hot Shot

Puffin Smoke;

How 'bout writeing to my E-Mail address directly?

I'm concerned about tying up TDR's pages, but in answer to some of your questions;

Yes you need a CDL-Yes you can get one using your rig.

I don't have medical insurance beyond Medicare, but to me the jobs not that dangerous.

You can get by with your normal license plates--thats true here in Wyoming anyway. Insurance is another matter, I just upgraded my normal policy with a company that I have been with for years and the cost increase was about $500. 00 bringing the total outlay to $950. 00 for just my 3500.

What make and model PU do you have? Same question re. trailer.

I contract to the best company around, Midwest Supply Co. here in Casper WY. The outbound pay hauling Tetons is only . 65cpm, but the trips are long on miles and the company breaks their back getting you back hauls. For instance I just hauled from here in Casper to Portland OR, drop & pick to Yuma AZ, deadhead to Mesa AZ, hauled to Las Vegas, drop & pick back to Casper. Not too bad, and all with 5ers.

I have worked for MSC for a year now and have nothing but praise for them. If your decsion to move to CA is not carved in stone consider Casper--we could always use anothe contractor. Please write to my E-Mail directly< I have more to say about hauling those Chinoks on flatbed trailers--pay is much better.

I might sell my rig

I am considering selling my baby, and moving up to a big International. (Frieght is getting too heavy for my tags)

I have 22. 5 wheels, custom sleeper by ICT, bulletproof 5 speed, Jake, Flatbed w/gooseneck, 4x4, And absolutely all the toys, bells and whistles... . email me, if interested seriously..... I have alot of $$$ tied up in my 97, but at 176,000 miles, she is just broke in.

I would like to see pictures of all. Im leaving alaska tommorow morning and heading to Fresno, Ca. So I will be out of the loop for a few days unless I get a hotel. How big is the gooseneck. How much you asking. If you would like email me at -- email address removed --.

Thanks

Your insurance is cheap for commercial hauling, My insurance on the Ram is over $2,000. 00 per year, and an addl. $500. 00 for $250,000 cargo coverage. I do carry $1,000,000 liability though.

I just switched from Acuity to Great West at a savings of $14,000 per year. (yes 14,000 ) That is for the whole fleet.

I thinks some of the hot-shotters are not carrying adequate insurance.

Hey MBurke,

Where's the fuel tanks on your '97? They don't show up in the pictures and I know you aren't puttzin around with the factory 34 gallon unit cause there's a toolbox where it used to be.

Nice lookin' rig there. I can tell you are proud of it.

MBURKE

MBURKE..... please contact me (pm) as I am hauling RVs with a RAM 01. Have been looking for a used truck similar to the one you described. Would like to increase the RV load from single to double.

Have any ideas?

What all tags and other fees are required for hauling in the U. S. A. This shop i talked to wants me to haul down south as well. I'm based in Canada. .
