I have spent the better part of the day meticulously looking for a hot to ignition. Preferably a fuse tap. I checked all of the ignition hot fuses and with the engine off I was reading 12V. I take great pride in using my Fluke.

How come when I measure from an ignition hot source (lighter)to ground with the ignition off I read 12V? I would have thought I would have read 0 volts and 12 volts with the ignition on. #@$%!

I searched the forum and found some people using their lighers for ignition hot. Not my number one pick.

How should I be measuring for a hot to ignition?

Thank you.

get a painless wiring kit from geno's i like the ppp-70207 the best mount it on the firewall high on driver side then you will never have to hunt for a source or fuse again

The lighter is hot all time but the power outlet should be switch controlled. They are switching the negative side now which means that 12 volts is there all the time. bg

Hot to ignition.

I was discussing this with some of the folks at work and we agree with BG. So much for tapping an ignition fuse. Does anyone know where the ignitions grounds are switched?

FYI the lighter on the driver side is ignition switched and the one on the passenger side is not. I also checked both 12V inputs on the radio and they are always hot as well.

In case you didn't read the other post I attached the fuse panel to fiber board with some rivets and used industrial strength velcro. When every thing is buttoned up I will be able to pull the fuse panel from behind the dash and replace popped fuses. I modified the top set of fuses to one 40 amp service to run the lights (+ spare fuse) and the other 4 will run the gauges (boost psi, transmission temp, pyro, soon to be installed fuel rail psi and lift pump psi, and backup camera. No more *******izing the wiring. This is a painless 70217 kit.

I appreciate all of the input.

Richard
