Cummins 13 hrs.
Dodge about 9.
Cummins usually pulls the cam.
Some Dodge dealers are using a cam gear puller made by Cummins (Read $1500)
Thus the reason for the shorter flat rate.
When my KDP let go and cracked the housing, Dodge wouldn't pay me to fix it (ind. repair shop. . conflict of interest).
They had the truck from Mon. -Fri. The poor tech didn't eat too well that week. I begged them to sub-let it to the Cummins Dist. , but they had it "under control. "
They removed the front bumper, radiator, innercooler, evac. a/c, removed condensor, fan shroud etc. . Removed the core support and motor mounts. Then pulled the pump, vac. pump/ps pump assy.
The gear cover, the cam and the gear cover itself.
With the Cummins tool the tech only pulls the cam out of several of the journals, installs the fixture and pulls the cam gear, removed the cover, reinstalls a new cover. Represses the cam gear and reinstalls the above.
I think one could maybe get away only with the radiator, fan and shroud removed to have sufficent clearance for the puller.
I know J. Donnelly and Lawrence at Diesel Dyn. are not fond of this puller.
I spoke with a engineer at Cummins recently who wasn't real fond of it either. The pullers ok, but the tech needs to pay close attention to not damage the cam, cam bearings etc.
My . 02 worth.
