Well, I was house sitting for my Boss (absolutely great to work with) in Boxford MA. Three inches of ice and eight inches of snow. Huge pine fell across the driveway, took down the power lines, ripped the service off the house (weather head, meter, entrance), power still on even though the meter was torn apart. Oh and parts of the house were pulled off.
Lucky part was that two weeks before, my boss bagged up seventeen bags of leaves and put them witht he trash. trash wouldn't take them, so I volunteered to take them to the recycling place the Saturday before Christmas. They only take construction debris. Back to the house (which has a ton of acreage around it), I leave the bags in the bed til Christmas morning. I pull my truck to a part of the driveway that I usually don't park in, unload the leaves and dump them in the woods (not with the bags). I left the truck there because I didn't feel like getting my keys. Well, when the power lines and chunks of house came down, it would have landed on my truck if I had moved/left my truck to where I normally park.
Three days of clean up. Boss came back to no power (Mass Electric had to cut the service because of hte meter socket damage, understandable).
I actually enjoyed the few days. Even though there was no power, and it was very long days of clean up, the stars and moon at night with the smell of a wood burning stove, two border collies, and a black cat, plenty of beer, is something to remember. Yup, always ad adventure to houe sit.
