Does any one build a houseing for the BHAF.

I beleave this is a good filter but would like to put it in a houseing to keep from drawing hot turbo air into the intake.

I know I could bend some sheet metal and make a shield but was wondering if there is something already available before I do this.

Thanks,

Ron

8" duct work? That is a neet idea. With the flashing on there is still more air flow compared to the stock box isn't there?

Piston Slapper,

Thank you for the idea. If I was to go that route I would put a rubber spacer between the filter and shield.

Any prefabed houseings or shields out there?

Thanks again,

Ron

Murle,

I will have to check into that one but I already have the Fleetguard BHAF (don't remember the numbers right now) and would like to keep it until it's wore out, hate to waste a good air filter but need to draw cooler air in so maybe I'll have to look into the PA28066. Thanks again.

Anybody else know if there is a pre existing filter housing for the fleetguard BHAF.

Murle........

The holes on the front of the filter your using is to let the air in correct? Are there ones in the back/bottom also?

It seems the actual paper part of the elemnt must be smaller though to fit into a housing the same size as a BHAF.

EDIT: If I get a chance I'll call Baldwin and find out the CFM differences in both.

Not sure if there are any holes in the back. I know there are no holes on the side. I have the PA2820 on the truck now. I bought the PA2806 and it is still in the box at home. Was waiting for the 2820 to get used up before putting the 2806 on. I think the element is a little smaller than the 2820 but it is still larger and better than the factory box.

Wouldn't buying a BHAF with a shield wrapped almost completely around it be kinda defeating the purpose? I mean we're getting these for the increased air flow created by an unshielded filter right? If you're gonna wrap a shield around the filter, you might as well just keep the stock box.

Get LarryB's heat shield, it wraps around the turbo and leaves the filter completely free to take it all air that comes its way, not just on the passenger side through the vent. The price is right and you can't beat the craftsmanship.

A four inch hole is a four inch hole, I plan on ducting to outside some how.

The filter media area is larger on a BHAF compared to the stock unit so the restriction should be less for the BHAF even in a houseing. Useing the four inch hole theory, if you put just a filter media over the four inch hole it would have more restriction than a five foot filter in a houseing with a four inch hole cut into the houseing. This is the way I see it, could be wrong though.

Cool air is also denser than hot air, so there would be more oxygen molicules to help the burn process in cool air. I know the intercooler helps cool the air back down but to which extent I don't really know.

Have to do a search..........

Someone actually had a temp probe in their air horn. I can't remember the exact data but the intercooler works well.

I tied a temp probe to the BHAF near the turbo and unless idling the temp was only a few degrees off of ambient. It gets plenty hot sitting at a light but when you get moving it cools very quickly.

I think the worries about heat from the turbo are overblown.
