I THINK that once you get smaller than 16cm you need to have about 1 1/2" removed from your downpipe length and the coupling re-attached.
I do not know if there are any other differences which would cause problems, but I've not heard of any, except for high EGT's at the upper end. 1st Gen heads don't breath as good as their 2nd Gen relatives.
Many of us have made the switch to the wastegated 12cm2 for our Firstgen's w/ no EGT worries! Myself, Powerwagon, Matt S, Russell, Cody (from Texas) all enjoy the increased low end boost of the 12 w/o hurting the upper RPM to much. Contact Matt S for his Dyno comparison between the 16 vs the 12... ... He chose the 12 in the end.
The mounting flange area of the downpipe must be shortened the 1 1/2" that "Bush" mentioned to accommodate the added wastegate length.
Check w/ "illflem" over in the 12 valve Engine forum... . His buddy just removed a 12cm2 off of his Second Generation & is thinking of selling it complete.
