October Showdown In CA!

Looking for a chapter

A few of us have been discussing the possibility of holding a Dyno Day in Ls Vegas, NV at Silver State Motor Sports. Mike Arnett has a Dynojet 248C that has archived hundreds of runs with all the Ram configurations--12 valve 160, 175, 180, 215 engines; 24 valve 215, 235, and 245 hp. This gives us a good database for comparisons. Since his business is based on gas pigs (turbocharged, mostly) and drofs at that, we know he is unbiased regarding overvalved, undervalved, and other Ram persuasions #ad
He said any weekend is OK with him (we may prefer to wait until it is a bit cooler in LV) and he will discount his usual $60 for a set of runs to $50 for a group like us. He has a large shop (a dozen or so bays, 3 lifts), air conditioned, two 10' wide doors, and dead drofs littered around #ad
May even have a Viper there, for token Mopar presence #ad
His shop is at the Speedway off I-15 in North Vegas.

I welcome suggestions as to level of interest, date, etc.

Now that sounds like a Plan. Joe, You the Man!. My better halfs parents live off Fort Apache in North Vegas, Free Lodging for the event, And some Craps too!

Sounds good Joe, but does it really ever cool off in Las Vegas? When do you think would be the best time.

good to have a "neighbor" w/ connections (not to the ECM, you overvalved buggers!) --as for cooling off... late Sep early Oct are really nice for a while...

Can't wait to get our trucks on a dyno finally. Haven't ever got around to it, but this will be a good reason too. As for a date of the event, may I suggest anything but the month of October, I'll be playing hooky from school for most of the month with hunting trips and ropings.

I'll try to be there, but I work weekends, and might not be able to get the time off.

The newsweasels say it is 112 deg. today. I think we oughta wait until the temp gets back into the double digits, but anytime is OK for me. Wouldn't want to discourage out-of-towners from participating. Yes, it gets real cold here in Vegas--say down to 30 deg at night in January #ad

So when would a good time be??? Possibly mid November???

112 is a little toasty, you may want to consider nitrous to keep from overheating on the grocery runs #ad

Mid November would probably be a good time. Whadayall think?

There you go again, HVAC, trying to get my poor old sickly Ram addicted to drugs. I'm trying to wean it off diesel#2 to save money, but it still won't give me over 21 mpg. Darn. hehe #ad

Joe,
November sounds great! why don't you throw a dart at the calendar and call it! We can get it down now and start planning.

I've been analizeing this forum for the best way to begin bombing my truck. I dont want to make a mistake and buy parts that I would have to change out later when I want more power. If I can figure out what parts to buy I would like to attend and do a before and after run on the dyno. Are newbies welcome?
My wife and I are always up for a chance to go to lost wages #ad
. November would give me plenty of time to save cash for bombing and the tables.

Nov is good. Plenty of time to shove family things aside & plan accordingly, get room reservations, etc. #ad
Nov in Vegas = great weather.

OK, mid November, hmmm, Saturday Nov 18. This is the weekend after Veteran's Day weekend and before Thanksgiving. Will this fly? I'll check with Mike Arnett for his end.

hehehe
Thanks for posting "your" photo, 446. #ad
We'll be looking for you at Dyno Day. Mike Arnett put the date on his calendar.

If anyone "can't wait" until November, we could schedule one this month also. Post your wishes here.
Joe

Hey Joe, I was wondering how much does ambient air temp affect power, I mean on a hot day old betsy sure feel slower.

Somebody take that 446 guy and get him a shave--probably needs a bath too #ad

Air temp, barometric pressure, and altitude affect power, but Dynojet has a program to monitor and correct to the SAE or some such standard. If you look at the dyno sheet under the graph is the line giving max power and something like CF=1. 04 meaning a 4% correction factor for Las Vegas summer heat and 2000 ft altitude.

I can see that humor is not up to expected levels in the local events forum. #ad

If I can get it together, I'll really try to make it. #ad

thanks Ray

Hey, I thought I looked pretty good #ad
