I worked on an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle program in an undisclosed Middle Eastern Country and when I got off the program we were in the process of changing over from Motoguzzi inline fours to small 3 cylinder diesels. It was the "heavy fuel" (Diesel) version because some Navies don't like gasoline on their aircraft carriers. I like the idea of the motorcycle. Mercury built some outboards about 10 years ago that were diesel. All sorts of stuff going on with smelly fuel.
 
Diesel applications are getting more interesting everyday. I would be hesitant to buy anything BUT a diesel in the future.
I've been reading about the VW's little diesels lately (getting 55-60mpg). When one "wizzed" by me the other day up the 6% grade, I took notice. Very Cool.

The biggest problem I'm having with the CTD Weedeater, is trying to start the **** thing... I'm now in the process of modifing the starter system to fire the thing up... Plus I've got to do somthing about that DAM# exhaust burning my hand... Greg(cumminzpower) gave me a good idea on that... ... ... . #ad

colin... . about adding a starter... aren't you worried about adding weight to a hand held device? i say stick to a pull starter to keep it at under a trim 1000lbs. and if you can't make the mighty ctd kick over with one or two pulls... . well it's time to lean the stump jumper against the barn and warm up the rockin' chair, bro!!! #ad

After WW2 Russia captured some BMW motorcycle plants and moved them back to Russia. They were still making /2 series bikes as late as 1980. An inseresting note is that they converted the opposed twin to run on Diesel too. They were slow but had gobs of torque and would run forever on the 5+ gallon fuel tank. The problem was they were very hard to kick start... Makes my back hurt just thinking about that.
