How about a "WarZone"

Everything back up and running - situation normal!!

??????/// Video Posting ??????/

I was just thinking... and I hate to suggest this, cause it's just NOT what the TDR is supposed to be all about.

When researching a new Diesel, I was pretty strong on the DMax. . (boy am I glad I nixed that truck and went with mine!). I was a member of GM-Diesel.com. They have a topic named "The WarZone". If a thread got out of control, or off topic and into a bashing session, the moderators would simply move it to the warzone.

This solves several problems that I see day to day. Specifically in the 3rd gen topics. There seems to be an increasing number of inflamatory posts popping up. I think it spawns from 1st and 2nd gen guys that "attack" the 3rd gen newbies. Not that it's not justified. The 1st and 2nd gen guys have got it goin' on. Most of the 3rd gen guys are new to diesels (myself included), and they post beliefs as fact, then are flamed by someone with a reasonable ammount of knowledge... . gripe gripe gripe...

MOST of the time, both parties seem to go back and forth *****ing at each other... . the original questions never get answered... . that's fine, but if a question isn't going to get answered, then the post is useless... . I would suggest a place to move threads so the people can just bash it out... I believe that eventually, after having their threads moved consistently, people would become more respectful of one another.

Disagreements happen... but we've got two forums laden with them.

??

Just a suggestion.

Andy

We definately will not ever have a "War Room" forum. I haven't noticed the 3rd gen forums being "laden" with flames although I have been real busy with the website problems so I haven't been able to watch them as closely as I normally would. Also, Mark Kitchell (3rd gen engine forum moderator) is out of town. I will let the moderators know to keep an eye out.

I don't think a "war zone" would be benificial. The last "war" caused a member or two to leave. Whether they wanted to or not.

Maybe "laden" was a bit strong... and maybe for some reason my freakish nature drives an addiction to keep reading the argumentative and incindiary posts.

It just seems to me that there is a lot of REALLY petty bickering going on right now. I don't neccesarily feel that the TDR mgmt needs to take any action, I was merely suggesting creating a place to move such threads so that potential members don't see us for the children that we sometimes act like.

But hey... all family's fight. :)

That's really sad, but I know it happens.

Try this

1. Always try to search your topic first. Then mention that you did this--then post what part of the search was unsuccessful. '' I searched this topic and understand I need to do a,b, and c. But I do not understand how to do c''

2. Always acknowledge when you get something that is helpful or when the problem is solved. Guys who help you are not necessarily looking for a public ''attaboy'', but they probably would like to at least know if the info they gave was helpful. If you discover a solution to the problem not even suggested , then post it also--that helps all of us learn.

3. If someone really helps you by taking a great deal of effort above and beyond the normal stuff, shoot them a PM. This also can help ease a flame war. If they really seem to be irritated with you. tell them a little about yourself and why you think/feel this way. I did this one time on a political thread when someone called me a ''whiner'' and he shot me a return PM that showed him to be a really good guy.

4 Post your really basic stuff on first time forums . The people who answer your questions over there browse there because they like to help people. Let's face it, when you put up a new post, about a problem that is very rare, you get knocked off the page pretty quickly by basic stuff sometimes.

Now I ain't much more than a newbie myself, but I feel that after you hang out here awhile, you will learn that this is a good place to be and better than the rest.

Dave's got the answers man. I bashed his head once, and he set me straight in a civilized way. I think a war room would be detrimental... but fun to read! The good ole war threads are informative sometimes... look at the transmission and oil threads. Heck I drive a stick and got a good bit of info out of the transmission wars!

As a person who, as a general rule gets along with everyone very well, I completely agree with Dave's comments. I picked up on those rules very early, and try and live by them. I know it makes me fell good to help someone and have them PM me a thanks. I try to reciprocate that behavior at every opportunity.

WarZone Detrimental? Probably. I would just like to suggest something... . and wasn't sure of any other ideas...

Here's an example of what I've been talking about.

I see more and more of this... Granted, not "laden" as I had mentioned earlier, but it seems to be a disturbing trend.

I'm not sure what the statement about 1st genners attacking the 3rd gen newbes came from?? I spend most of my time in the first gen section and I have not seen it happening there. I don't go to the 3rd gen section so maybe it is going on there. The more members we get the more outspoken some become and that generally sparks some "rapid" responses that can get out of hand. I guess the old addage "treat others like you want to be treated" comes to mind here. What goes around comes around.

Steve, Thanks for slapping hands over on the thread I linked. It was really looking bleak over there. I came in this morning and didn't see the "Should I cancel my membership" poll... I assume that you deleted that one? That was another train wreck waiting to happen.

Stan, I wasn't pointing fingers or trying to antagonize anyone. I need to correct that statement. Maybe "seasoned'' CTD owners would be more accurate than 1st and 2nd Gen owners.

Take care guys,

Andy

Dave ain't no angel

I do not have all the answers . I just wish I could be as considerate in person as I appear to be on the printed page
