How about running used ATF?

I have an old '77 240D Mercedes and was wondering about running 50/50 diesel and used,filtered ATF. I can get alot of it from a friend of mine that has a trans shop. I have thought about running it in summer.

I wouldn't run more than a quart or so, it isn't designed to be burned. With that said, my old 95 Dodge liked a quart in the fuel!! It did get better mileage with it. This 02 doesn't so I quit trying it.

The mercedes, well, it is up to you to risk it.

Be careful of the Fuel Tax Gods, ATF will give your diesel a red tint that could be taken as dyed (untaxed) fuel if you should get dipped. It has happened here in Virginia.

I would question running a 50/50 blend, but ATF burns fine and helps clean the injectors. I use it when ever I have it in both my trucks!

I too get "flamed" for running used motor oil and ATF in my fuel. Some people think that if God had meant for it to be used as fuel, He would have recommended it in the owner's manual.



Personally, I have had good luck stretching my fuel with oil and plan to continue to do so.
