Last year I had major problems with my FASS and our new ULSD (crap) when the temp. dipped below -10F. Years before, with even colder temps. and my FASS, I had NO trouble (using the same additive with LSD). Seems the oil companies/ additive companies didnt do their homework when it came to cold weather. The fuel is the only variable in my equation that changed. I took my factory fuel filter heater apart and checked the element, it works fine. I called several 1-800 numbers to talk to additive companys, most of which told me the same thing (with hard to treat fuel, double the dose, but dont add too much, it may drop out of suspension and plug filters. ). Great, now I need to be a chemist to use their product:rolleyes:

So, this is what I am looking at (the kits on the right), but I dont know if it will fit the filter/head on my FASS.

Any ideas?

has anyone tried one of those oilpan heaters on the fuel tank itself? seems if you warm the tank all else should be good. I know semi's have heated tanks.

I think one of those plug in oil pan heaters would work fine, just put it under where the fuel pick up is and you would be golden. Once you drive for 20 minutes your fuel is all warmed up for the day so you would only have to have it for starting in the AM.

I'm in the same boat as Jeepit, got rid of my factory fuel filter when I put my FASS system on. I don't really see it being a problem in my area. I work at a Mack dealer and probably 99% of the trucks that come thru our shop don't have a fuel heater on them. If they do, the have coolant plumbed thru the Davco unit or filter head.
