How big of tires on 2500 4x4?

I figured this would have been talked about before, but could not find anything with a search... .



So, how big of tires can I put on my 2500 4x4 with no lift kit? Currently has 265's, but there's plenty of room for more.

285/75 seam to work well. They fill in the wheal wells too.

I have had 285/75R16 and 305/75R16 on my truck. If you get the right offset wheels and a 2 1/2" lift you can run 315/75R16.

255x85 16LT tires

I run 255-85R 16LT on my 97 2500 TDR. They are 33" high and the spare just fits in between the frame rails in the stock position. The brand I prefer is Dunlop Radial Rover RV which are a decently agressive long wearing tread pattern. Here's the link http://www.dunloptire.com/products/tire.html?tire=radial_rover_rv

New Guy with 295's

Just put BF Goodrich 295/75/16's on my brand new 2500 4x4. No problem and they look great.

As soon as I get some time I will get my profile, signature and photo of my truck set up.

I was running 255/85 BFG mt's until a couple days ago when I switched to 295 ATs. Well I liked the 255s until I drove it with the 295s. Night and Day. It is smoother(sucks up all the little bumps and many of the big ones), steering tracks better, much quieter with the less agressive trend and the traction on the road, especially wet is much much better. I did not what to go shorter than the 255s I was running which are 33. 3 inches tall (the MTs run taller than other 255s) So the 295 at 33. 5 inches seemed to be the answer. I have found no negatives at all so far.

I'm curious, could anyone post a chart that compares tires with the 285/75/16 type measurements to those with the 33/12. 5/15 type.



Also what are the main differences between these tires? Is there a price difference? Any info would be appreciated.



I ask because I will probably go up in tire size when stock tires wear out (and am considering rims also).

I've got 315/75R16 on stock wheels and they only rub at full lock. Not enough to even show on the tires.

Go to www.bfgoodrichtires.com and they have a chart that gives you all the dimensions exact load ratings everything. You have to have acrobat reader to get the info because it is in PDF format but those charts are jam full of info. Check out those Baja tires they look awesome. When my OEM 265 Michelins wear out. Im going for either some MT 285s or maybe some 295 at/Ko s. Gota get back to that chart for further research

I could fit 305/85R16's ( 36" tall, 10. 5" wide) with just a front leveling kit. I couldn't run the front Dodge moulded mud flaps. They would rub the tires on a turn.

Heres a thought. How about 305/85R 16s on Da front and BFG 37" Baja big honkers on da back. They are 36 inches tall!



How long does it take to install / remove a leveling kit. I really like the way my 2500 sits level when loaded heavy, but unloaded it seems the leveling kit is the way to go. Do you change the springs?

I took myself and another friend with a nice shop two hours to install new shocks and the Tuff Country spacers. He had all of the necessary tools along with air pressure. I have been very happy with them so far. Trucks sits level now and it takes a heck of load to make it squat much.

I just changed my front springs and shocks. That was the kit. 6 years ago. It was a full day job for me.



Search" leveling kit"s for much better and up to date info.



You could try the different tires. If they not all the same height, when you put the truck in 4 wheel drive the transfer case will bind. Hell of a noise.



The tires I got are only a load range C. Not a really tough tire. Only available thru National Tire & wheel. So you have to order them, have them mounted locally (good luck). A lot of aggravation .

I got 33x12. 5x16. 5s on my truck when I bought it used. They track well and wear well- no problems. I need new tires and am looking at Bfg or Dunlop- any opinions?

I'm new to the forum so if I ask a dumb question bear with me. I was wondering when you change your tire size from the stock 265's to 285's or 295's did you have to make any adjustments to the brain center to correct speedo, abs brakes etc? i'd like to change to a taller tire when my o. e's wear out, these changes are 3 to 6% taller on my calculater. thanks for all the great info this is great!!
