Just went to the local 5 star dealer and they had an 06 4x4 SLT for $35k 5000 miles and said it was as low as they could go maybe 34. 5k. But they would sell me the same truck option for option new for 34. 5k

What gives? I was thinking maybe 30 to 33 for the used one but not more than a new one :(

I dunno thast just the way used dealerships are, heck even 2 year old trucks are priced more than new in many cases. Its a rip because its not a new truck, and you don't get as good a deal on the financing either. Only thing I can figure out is most people pay a lot more for new trucks than us educated people. They see that big ole honkin sticker price, and that used truck starts looking pretty good.

Whats also rediculous is my 02, that I paid just over 30k for is, worth around 22k four years old and 90k miles, why not pony up the extra 8 grand for a new truck?? my truck needs ball joints, and a clutch before long, and who knows what else if I decided to keep it. yeah its good for me, just doesn't make sense to the guy that will buy it

I hear you. Same 5 star dealer same price new vs. used. That is just crazy. I have found if you buy a used 06 in 06 or 03 in 03 financing stays the same +/- . 5 of a percent. granted you have good credit. Just figure it would be better to let someone else take the initial depreciation hit. The only downfall is you can't be picky on colors and some options and you have to be patient.

I was figuring to trade it in now and not have to change the transmission next year when i hit 200k. I am even considering a 6speed oave the auto and 2 wheel drive.

Late model used vehicles like that are usually sold to people with bad credit.

They can't qualify for a new one so they get sold the used vehicle at a high interest rate.

When I bought my 05' last feb. I looked long and hard for a used one but I couldnt find any 04's or 03's w/ less than 50K miles for less than $30K, I bought the 05' brand new for $28. 5K

The dealers "job" is to sell their goods & services for as much profit, as they can get away with.

When I bought my '03 (12-31-'02), some of the dealers, around Phoenix, had a "Value Added" price on the window sticker. One dealer added $3999. 00 & the dealer I bought from wanted $2999. 00 extra. That's in addition to the window sticker pricing.

I asked the Fleet Mgr. about the "Added Value" pricing & he said that there are people so intimidated by the buying process that they will pay any price that looks legitimate. The window sticker looks legitimate. I'm not so sure you can blame them. If you can get the highest price for a product & your customer is willing to pay an extra $4000. 00 on top of that price, why not?

It's up to us, the customer, to educate ourselves in the buying process. None of the dealers are going to lose money on a sale. However, I sure do feel sorry for those folks that are so intimidated by the buying process.

Lots of used trucks selling for more than new ones here, also.

When I was looking Oct 05' a new Megacab was within $2k of a used 05' Quad. When financing was taken into consideration the mega was cheaper.
