You ought to be able to buy a fan relay from wherever you bought the fan(s). Take (+) off the lead to the fan clutch to (+) side of relay and then ground the (-)leg of the relay. Run a (+) from a good source to the Common terminal and then one from normally open to the fan. For a good source I ran a #10 wire from the battery terminal nut to a automotive style breaker mounted on the fender well. You will probably need 20 or 30 amps depending on the fan.

This worked on my 55 F100 so it ought to work on the Dodge.

On my new 92 I just bought I have 2 seperate relays mounted on pass. side fenderwall. I run 2 fans on the front plus updated fan assy for the 215 motor. Early next week I can get you the part #'s of the relays. And a few digital pics if this will help. They only come on when the AC is on. I had to resort to this as the added heat would set the bypass on the compresser and blow $$$$ in the air. Only way we could get it to stop the high pressure. Dam%est thing I ever saw. Had to do that to my other 92 215hp setup. #ad

I already added a high pressure cutout switch to my AC hose set. The 12 positive connection you speak of turnmy fans on when the AC is on AND WHEN THE IGNITION IS OFF! I wired it to the fan switch; now the fans work with either heat or AC!!! I never use heat, so it's not a problem!

I tried every possible connection to the compressor clutch. I tried a negative actuated relay, a positive actuated relay. I tried it with isolating diodes and without. The best I can get is the booster fan always on with ignition on. Any suggestions from those of you who have done this?

jsimpson,
You can fix this problem one of three ways.
1. Power your fan relay from the ignition switch
2. Install another relay that is commanded on from the ignition switch. Use the output side of this relay to power your fan relay.
3. Go to Autozone and buy yourself a new fan clutch, and install your mechanical fan. It sounds like the electric fan set up you have is more trouble than it is worth!

I am now powering a relay from the heater (AC) fan. It works with either heater or AC, but I never use heat anyway down here. The fan clutch was not the problem, the cating that holds the bearing was shot. That's a big buck item. Besides, my AC, oil pressure' and transmission temp are all better with the electric fan setup.

Slightly off the subject but-- what size fans do you use and where/how do you mount them. I couldn't find room in my 93.

jsimpson,
You mentioned the casting that holds the fan pulley bearing on the original fan was shot. Although you removed the original mechanical fan, you would still need the fan pulley in order to install the serpentine belt. Or, did you re route the serpentine belt around the fan pulley? Just curious.

I just sawed the end of of the pulley and used it. The shot part was where the fan and clutch mounted to it.
I used two 14" Perma_Cools mounted side by side.
