I need to run some wire from the back of the truck into the cab. Other than the grommet on the firewall, is there another way in, closer to the rear of the cab?

Roy,

Unscrew the plastic kick plate where your carpet butts up against the door jam and remove it. You can then drill a hole, using a rubber grommet run wire anywhere into the cab, then reinstall the kick plate covering the hole.

Your best bet is to use the grommet in the firewall, their is plenty of room and it is the most protected area for the penetration. I'm not sure it you have used any of the room there before to run wires Thur, but their is plenty of room for more. I have run about 25 circuits Thur that area, one a #2 amp feed and I can still get more Thur if needed.

It may look hard to you, but there is nothing to it. I like to use a piece of solid Ty-wire to push Thur and then tie the wires you need run Thur the hole to the Ty-wire, then just pull them Thur. Don't get lazy on this job, it is very easy. UN-screw the sill plates and kick plate on the drivers side, pull back the carpet where it goes up on the firewall and run your wires under it down across the door sills and to the rear. You may need to remove the rear b-pillar cover to gain access to the extreme rear of the cab, just try and route the wires out of the areas that might be steeped on. Also make sure the wires will not get nicked when the sill plates are screwed back down.

I have done this very procedure several times on both sides, it is quick and painless.

Here is a response I got to routing my CB coax. I don't know if the 02 would have the same plug as 04, but it might be worth a look.

I have the same mounting, front corners of the bed, using the firestick mounts that hang over the rails. I ran the wires from the antennas through the stake holes out the bottom, then along the frame to the cab, where I found a metal, not rubber, cover that could be pushed out. It had ears that you bend to clear the hole, then the plug pushes up into the storage bin under the rear seat. I just routed it from there to the center console for now. Pull the carpet in the storage area up and put it back after you get the wires through.

Bungs in Back of Cab

I just checked my 97 Q cab, it has a bung on each side at the abck of the cab down at the bottom between the cab & box that would be a good place if it's the same on your 2002.

CC ;)

When doing my CB I used the rubber plugs at the bottom rear corners of the cab. You need to pull the plug and use a long drill to get through to a cavity under the rear seat belt area.
