I think most educated people would agree that black smoke from the tailpipe of a diesel is a bad thing. Is it cool to purposely invoke known diseases by intentionally tuning a vehicle to run improperly, wasting fuel, raising costs for everyone, and carelessly depleting our resources? Would you intentionally inhale a big gulp of those fumes? Have you seen the soot stains on buildings throughout Europe from black diesel smoke? Is it cool to knowingly raise greenhouse gases when everyone is conscious of the pummeling impact from such pollution?

Perhaps these are some of the reasons other board members considered the idea of increasing black smoke juvenile. Smoke is certainly not the most salient promotion of a Cummins or any diesel. Definitely not why i love and drive diesels. If you've researched measures being taken for the near future of diesel emissions and why such steps are being taken, it is likely that increasing tailpipe pollution would seem fallacious to you as well.

MMcCallie,

Couldn't agree with you more! There is a price to be paid for driving stupid, Air Pollutation, a ticket, tougher laws ect. There is no free ride.

Don't get me wrong I have done some pretty stupid things in my life, that I kindda wish I hadn't!!!! ;)

I'm sorry if my sarcasm got to you. It wasn't meant to inflame, but if you can't make smoke with a 12 valve, I wouldn't label anyone "total idiot" here.

Maybe somebody will help you in your quest...

Isn't the whole idea to balance the air and fuel so you're pretty much burning clean (ie utilizing the fuel you're injecting) to get maximum power from the rig? Black smoke is just unused power, right? If you watch a clip of the drag diesels, they DO smoke a ton while they build boost, but then they clean up really quick, and that's for a competition truck. Now, the pulling trucks smoke all the way down the track, but they're under load and you're not dragging a sled down the road. I think it's possible to be heavily fueled and make big power AND burn fairly clean. Seems like if you add big injectors and delivery valves, the next step is to try to clean up all that smoke with turbo, cam, head, etc. so you're USING the fuel. That's my goal anyway. Correct me if I'm thinking wrong here. -Josh

If anyone is going to be throwing around derogatory comments they should be directed at you in my opinion and not coming from you.

It is people and comments like this that will be hurting the future of the diesel performance industry.

I did not solicte your comment on this subject so please keep them to your self. I am starting to see that what the other diesel owners ment about the type of people who own cummins powered vehicles... It is a shame, i thought I would give one a try but it looks like it was a total waste of time and money. I wanted this thing to have some fun in, I do not need to work with nor do I need it for 4 wheeling or drag racing.

Bighammer, I apoligize to you for the snappy remark. My truck barely black smokes at all unlike my Duramax that would cover the 4 lane and was wanting suggestion to make this slug a little more fun. And before anyone say's anything, the duramax would run circles around this thing.

Yeah... . We are all *******s. You should leave now :-laf

Seriously, when you come on a forum as a new member and start to insult senior members of the board that is probably not the best way to get answers.

I think all diesel guys like a little smoke show now and then, but wanting to "choke the cars next to me... " certainly is a good way to gain negative exposure to the diesel performance industry. I don't think anyone wants the government to start cracking down any more on how much fun we can have with these trucks. If you read through a few post on this thread I think this theme is obvious.

Best of luck with your truck. You will find a great deal of knowledge here on these forums and the search feature can be a valuable asset if you are wanting to learn more about your truck.

My .02 cents.

I live in tinytown U. S. A. Moab, Utah. We have no emissions testing in our county. However, our small main street is a MAJOR truck route. They blow smoke all the way through town. ( 4 stop lights ). BUT... . they are not registered in our county. The quickest way to bring on emission testing is for a bunch of locals to start smoking cars. I can do a quick 1/2 throttle and smoke my duals and fish tail the rear end. BUT NO SMOKE !! Diesel fuel here is 43 cents per gallon more than reg. gas. The last thing I want to do is blow it out my tail. JMHO.

Wow, this thread turned ugly quick. :-{} Is it possible to go with a setup like the one I got, add some injectors, maybe delivery valves, and keep it as smoke free as possible? I want more power, but don't want a ton of smoke.

Alright this got out of hand a little  . I like having the ability to smoke out somebody that is tailgating me. It is hard to get a stock turbo'd truck to smoke much, especially with an auto. The turbo spools so quick it takes away all the smoke, witch is a good thing(I agree with the tree huggers on some things). But if you want some smoke try this, first get guages if you don't have them. Grind the plate to a zero(flat) this will give you lots of fuel right off bottom. Loosen up the starwheel to give you more pre boost fuel. 370 injectors will also help roll the coal. All of these mods will not only give you more smoke but way more power too, plenty of power to fry a stock trans or clutch in a hurry. The funny thing is there are alot of people running setups close to this but the look for information on hear and start threads that say more power not more smoke  . As far as I'm concerened they go hand in hand, yes you can tune the truck to not smoke and make top power but i'd be willing to bet most of the people on hear over 400hp have some smoke out the tailpipe on a full throttle romp. Any of the parts or tuning mentioned on hear is widely discussed and tons of info can be found by searching. I just couldnt let you go on thinking that your dmax is better :D

Good luck

THANK YOU

This was all I was looking for, I like the loud truck and it is fun to drive but everynow and then there is those little cars with fart cans on the back of them sitting almost at the tail pipe at the red light and I just cannot resist giving them some. Oh and the Hardley rider that has to rev it like he is on a high HP ride...

If anyone thought that I want to just ride around and blow smoke every where I go I apoligize for that, I only want to be able to play every now and then...

And I knwo that the cummins is better than the dmax... That is why i bought one...

My truck has the #6 plate, 5" exhaust, boost, egt and trans gauges and a built auto...
