I have heard that I am only getting 90hp of the 120hp that the edge drag comp puts out due to my high output engine? any other solutions?

The ho engines had more power stock than a so engine... . which means that the vp44 can only do so much. You will get less power from the engine because you are already tapping the extra power out before the chip is installed.

That TST PM3, it will only give me 90hp? Is that correct?

I'm not sure of Tst, but I know it does fueling also..... you will get less power than a so truck. I would stack a smarty on it & you will be happy. No matter what... . you'll still tap out of power before a so truck..... only because you already have the power on tap.

Keep in mind that injectors usually give you a few more ponies than on a HO VS a SO. Throw a set of sticks in and you'll have a :D

A smarty is a great addition too for responsiveness. No other mod can do what a smarty does.

100hp is all you will do with electronics, yet I debated switching to a So pump and a So ECM if that could be done and benifiting from the electronics more. Then I put on a HRVP and I'll just leave it at that.

The plunger in the vp-44 on the HO motor is actully smaller from what I have been told, they did this for emissions, so thus causeing only 90 horse from the comp box.

The HO injectors are smaller (but operate at higher pressure) than the SO. The electronics can only do so much until you remove the flow restriction inherent in the stock injectors.

From the Dodge Ram Tech website:

ETH injectors (3946306) flow 600cc at 100bars for 30 seconds

ETC injectors (3944828) flow 640cc at the same test.

With the stock HO injectors, my truck fell off fast after 2700 RPM. Changing them out to the DD2s, it pulled much harder from 2700 up to 3200 RPM.

MamthTorq is right, the plungers in the HO are smaller than the SO (IIRC, ~. 250" for the HO, . 285" for the SO), but the cam ring which depresses the plungers to create the fuel pressure is more aggressive. This is why the electronics will not yield as much of a gain on the HO as the SO - still limited by the plunger size.

I have read on here that some people have been successful in swapping a SO pump to an HO motor, but we tried that back in the day and the truck wasn't happy. To those that get it to work, great, but some might have issues.

If you want the best of both, and can afford to buy parts or a pump, swap the rotor head and plungers from a SO into a HO pump. Use the HO cam ring. Good for about 40rwhp.

Also, the injectors from the HO are smaller than the ones from the SO... by about 15rwhp. This is why injectors will make about that much more in a HO than a SO.

Would it be better for me to just buy a HRVP pump?

I'd hold off on the HRVP & for the $1600 you would spend..... you can get a set of sticks for $650 [Dragon Flows from Industrial Injection] & a good turbo. You will have more power than a HRVP for sure. Maybe the Silver Bullet in the classifieds for $1300 & injectors are listed too. Just my $. 02

If your pump was out, then I'd consider it. Otherwise, the HRVP's were really the last step in the chain of bang-for-the-buck mods. As mentioned above, injectors, turbo, etc will yield more for less $$$. Your signature doesn't show what's done to your truck, so we can't comment on what to upgrade to or from.

Go to user control panel under discussion forums at top of screen..... click on edit signature & let us know what is done to the truck.

Click his username and select View Public Profile, then you can read all about his mods in his Truck Profile. I did the same, although I added a quick link in my sig to make it a bit more convenient.

You need a pump, HRVP or a version because the HO pump will only flow fuel for about a 150hp injector or about "165" on the HO so a 250hp stick will really see no gain.

You need a pump...
