I have the fass 150 gph with filters and man it makes noise. Steady hummm. Has anyone mounted soft rubber between the frame and pump assy? What do you suggest go cut down on noise?

A good friend of mine had the FASS 150 gph unit installed on his 04 when we were at Industrial Injection. We talked about the known noise with these units and Brett showed us how they do it there. He said it was the only way they could get them to be quiet.

They use several layers of black electrical tape on the mount that is bolted to the frame. I know that his truck is alot quieter than the Holley Blue that he used before the FASS. If I were you I would give it a try, please let us know how it works out too.

Hope this helps ya!

I'd go with Electrical RUBBER tape Not the vinyl. about 3-5 wraps should give you a good cushion.

Yeah I thought the same thing when Brett was using the electrical vinyl tape. Well it seems to be that the vinyl tape helps isolate the bracket from the frame of the truck, whereas the thicker tape will permit the bracket to vibrate and transmit the noise.

Electric Tape, great idea! I have the 95 GPM unit and have'nt installed yet but was going to take my sawzall to an old tire for some heavy thick rubber to shim. Thanks for another option guy's!-----RJ

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I want to hear my FASS running. If you wanted something quiet you'd be driving a Honda. Its a DIESEL for crying out loud. We're already spoiled by having common rail technology to quiet things. Sometimes I miss my 95.

Thanks for the replys guys , I think I will take a sawzall to a used tire out back and shim her up real good.

Any suggestions on using 1/2 inch or 3/8 fuel lines? with 150gph pump?

Did you use the larger fuel pickup tube?

I heard the noise is the cavatation due to tiny pickup tube

I'm new here, 2003 2500 CTD. I also had the 150 gph FASS system and it whined for 8 months before i could'nt stand it no more. I ordered the 95 gph replacement pump and it is 100% quieter.

I just installed the 95gph unit. i can only hear it with the engine off! And works great! (I have not towed yet). I concidered the 150 but you only need it with EXTREAM MOD'S. A larger pick up tube mat help. ?

The only thing I see wrong with using electrical tape is that it will work out from between the mount and frame overtime (and thereby make the FASS loose on it's mount)... I believe the strip of rubber (like a rubber mudflap) drilled with the mounting holes would be a better long term solution.

Mine is loud, can hear it in the cab. It cavitates only once in a while (actually dependant on fuel I get??). The noise bothered me at first, but now I don't even hear it.

Just installed

Hey everyone -first post- I just installed the fass 150gph unit and used longer bolts with rubber hose fitted over them. Then I drilled the holes large enough to fit the hose through the bed mounting member. Installed the pump mount with rubber spacers on the bracket side and washers on the other side. It ends up sandwiching the hose and it expands to hold the pump secure. It probably doesn't even need the rubber spacers, just extra security. Man, that thing was loud- sounded like I drove an electric truck. Now I hear it only without the motor running. Nick.

alot of the noise is because of the pick up tube, but the tape helps too. :-laf
Not to flame you but I disagree. When I had my Fass 150 gph I tried it both ways with the larger pickup tube and without. I agree with what tommey gun posted, the larger pickup tube does quiet the fass down,at least it has on my truck. coobie :D

Self-fusing silicone tape would be a much better choice instead of electrical tape. I hate electrical tape - it just makes a mess.

What is this larger pickup tube?

I just installed the 95 GPH pump and it is LOUD. I either need to erlocate it, find the reason for it being so loud, or remove it. I dont want to hear the damn pump instead of the radio. lol

I am searching online looking to find out what other people are doing.

I didnt remove the tank. I just installed the line to the top of the tank pump, then to the fass pump, then to the back of the fliter housing. Thats it, nothing else other than using a few layers of dyna matt on the frame and also covering the whole pump with it (wasnt sureif that would be a heat problem).

I mounted it to the frame under the front left corner of the bed, near the bottom of the erar glass on the driverside, but under the bed portion.

Please give me some advice for quieting this thing down. Thanks!
