my 2003 quad cab short box 4x4 has a squirrely nature with 33 12. 50 17 pro comp at's. It hunts all over the road and is very flinch-too-much-n end -up-in -the ditch, kind of quick. It is almost like it is over-assisted, because at low engine speeds and vehicle speeds it has good feedback and such and a firm feel. On the interstate it is darty and quick and work to keep form jumping lanes. Th alignment is ok and it has no pull bias. i was running 45psi hot and went to 55 psi hot front and rear, seems a little better, very little. How can I slow the steering down or reduce the power assist? flow control?crimp a steering hose with a clamp?

A few questions. .

Does it have a lift?

What load range are the tires?

What is the max psi on the sidewall?

Do you have aftermarket wheels?

I hope your kidding about squashing off a p/s line

My 2 cents. .

That tire is pretty wide and while it is rated for an 8" wide wheel it would be more stable on a 9" wide wheel.

Another thing about that tire is that while it is D rated it's only rated for 2600 lbs which is down in the C range of load ratings so its my guess that the sidewalls are not a beefy construction.

An OEM tire is rated for 3195 lbs.

The combination of running a minimum width wheel with a 2600 lb rated tire I suspect is your trouble.

What you can do is run max pressure and adjust the Caster higher.

You mentioned alignment is good, I would be curious what the Caster is set to especially if you have any lift.

I agree with Matt 400. Increase the caster. My caster is set around 4. 5 positive and is very stable and tracks fine. At very low speed the steering is a bit heavy.
