Which cabover to buy???

I think the new Dodge truck commercials are good. The ones about "hey that thing got a hemi?' My question is why dont we ever see a Dodge commercial advertising the Cummins? I have read somwhere that about 75% of all Dodge 3/4 ton trks are sold with the Cummins engine. Why dont D. C. advertise them.

Chevy advertises their duramax heavily and ford advertises their powerstroke.

Why dosent Dodge advertise the Cummins?

Inquiring minds want to know.

You can be sure that the ad agencies have it figured out, perhaps they have no need to advertise the Cummins, some things sell themselves. You don't see many ads for Harleys either.

Or perhaps you're not looking in the right place. A lot of the agricultural publications I receive have ads for Dodge Cummins. Maybe they have it figured out that the average TV viewer isn't interested in diesels.

I agree with illflem. I've never seen a t. v. ad for the Cummins but I've seen quite a few ads for them in various ag magazines like Successful Farming, etc. DC markets their trucks to people that use them like construction, agriculture, etc. and the best way to get to those people are through ads in their respective publications. Dodge Cummins is the official truck of the PRCA if I remember correctly, and the 1,000,000th Cummins powered Dodge is going to be given away at the NFR this year. I think Cummins' advertising is best done by word of mouth. Farmers talk to each other about everything teh same way construction people talk and rodeo people talk.

Just my opinion.

Ford doesn't advertise their Lightning.

Chevy Doesn't advertise their,, uh, Chevy advertises everything, the uglier it is, the more they show it to ya.

Is that still true? I remember Cummins had a press release a few years ago stating that fact. Has the "Hemi" taken away any of the market share from the Cummins in the new Dodge HDs? Does anyone know?

Instead of asking if they have a Hemi... ... . they need to be asking if they have a twin turbo cummins with all the goodies.

I suspect some marketing analyst had figured out that they don't need to advertise the Cummins to sell it. They have a loyal customer base that probably generates a pretty constant number of Cummins powered 2500/3500 sales every year.

With the name recognition of the HEMI being advertised, however, they probably think they can make some incremental conquest truck sales that they wouldn't have made otherwise. Notice how they're pushing the new HEMI Durango, the HEMI Ram 1500 and next year the HEMI Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum come along on the new rear drive chassis.

I'm sure they're hoping that a HEMI powered vehicle becomes a "gottahaveit" for not only the Mopar loyalists, but owners of competing brands.

I think part of the reason that Chrysler is promoting the Hemi is because they build it and make more profit from it. They have to buy the Cummins.

Let me see, ... . Hemi has 16 spark plugs, wires, distributer, 8 cylinders, two heads, ... etc. Cummins has ...

I would have to believe they heavily promote the HEMI because well it was THE premier engine for a number of years. For some odd reason it got axed (emissions and the great power massacre of the late 70's) and now they're bringing it back. That engine had such a badassed reputation in the 60's and 70's it just can't die out.

I like diesels myself, but if i had to have a gasser it doesn't get much better than a HEMI. I tuned ford big blocks for a long time and know a lot about them, but i'd still take a 426 HEMI. Over a 385 series Ford (429/460). Though I do admire the 429 CJ's and ofcourse the BOSS 429.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Why promote an engine that DC dosent make. More profit in one they make. Never mind the fact that the Cummins will out last all of the gasser engines DC makes. But then if people buy the Cummins powered trucks and drive them for over 300,000 miles they wont be able to sell

replacement trucks. Jeez maybe I should come out of retirement and apply for a bean counter job at DC. since I think I have figured it out.

Hemi is cool? Sure. Hemi's of the 60's breed? TROUBLESOME!

(Cool, but not practical. ) In the Dart, it soon was replaced by a 440. We wanted to use it more than wrench it.

Overall, I'll take the big block Chevy.

That holds true with the new trucks. Gimme 8 liters and a mule:D :D
