diesel swap help

I haven't read anything that says the new PSD is not a 50 state engine. With the HO Cummins not available in CA, MA, or ME, what did Ford/International do to make their new engine 50 state legal? Why can't Cummins do something to make the HO 50 state legal? Also, would someone try to explain why people are reluctant to get a diesel with an EGR valve? I would like to upgrade to a 3500 Dually, hopefully within 18 months, and since I live in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts, I sure hope the HO Cummins is available.

Sorry for so many questions at once, but is puzzling that one of the worlds largest diesel engine makers can't produce a 50 state engine; while it seems, and I stress it seems, that our competition has no trouble doing so.

Any clarification on the issue greatly appreciated.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Cummins was going to add the EGR to make the HO 50 state legal... . Doug

Cummins already has a 300 hp ISBe for RVs that is (I think) legal in all states (660 ft-lbs too). I think DC was too cheap to put in the normal ISBe engine (variable geometry turbo -- also functions as an exhaust brake) and EGR. That Cummins apparently agreed to this appears to be bad judgment as far as their image is concerned. DC certainly appears not to take the high road in this area. Perhaps they like being number three! :(

Powerstoke for this year is only 6. 0 liters displacment and is egr and has variable geometry turbo. These 2 problematic toys will be on the cummins in 2 years.

Cummins has been around for a long time, they know diesels. I'm sure if they wanted to they could. I dont know anything about the new Powerstrokes so I cant say what they did to make it 50 states legal or if it even is.

I highly doubt that Cummins "cant" make a 50 state legal HO, but rather for what ever reason they choose not to.

Thanks to all that replied. Considering the number of people in the 3 states that the HO isn't available, and would gladly purchase one, I can't believe that the bean counters at DC would avoid the huge market they're missing.

Perhaps DDahl is right; maybe DC enjoys being number 3.

One more thing, does DC "direct" Cummins in which direction to go with the Dodge engines, or does Cummins say what can or can not be done?
