Received my Franz (Frantz Filters Manufactured by We Filter It! Inc - Oil, Diesel and Gas Filters) bypass filter yesterday about 2pm. I had it fully installed by dinner (6pm) and the only thing that prevented me from actually driving the truck was waiting for the JBWeld to set up on the oil filler cap.

Fired it up around 10am today without any problems or leaks.

My install is simple. I fashioned a mounting bracket by bending a 12" x 5" piece of stainless steel 90 degrees at the 6" point along the 12" side. I attached the filter mounting bracket to it and installed the homemade bracket under the passenger side battery. Mounted the filter to the bracket. Attached one hose from the oil filter engine mount to the bypass filter and another hose from the bypass filter to the oil filler cap. The addition of two wire ties secured the hoses and voila... install is done. Fired it up the next morning, topped off the oil and it was good to go.

My oil has almost 4000 miles on it and I'm deliberately not changing it so I can monitor what the bypass is able to do in the way of cleaning it up.

Couple of comments on oil changes. I've used Delo15w40 for the last several years with a analysis at random times. One time went 10k with a Fleetguard only (no by-pass) and pulled a sample while changing oil. It came back good to continue running, no unusual numbers.

I've had one sample checked with 15k since installing my Frantz, it was also good.

I've got about 10k on this change and a analysis a few days ago was good. I'll do another at 15k and if it's good will go on to 20k, reguardless of the 20k analysis , will likely change it at that point.

Guess it should be noted, I live out in the country and most of the time, I put on 10 miles at least when I crank up. Lots of weeks, 500 miles is common.

Good luck, RJR
