I have a 2001 2500 desiel. I have never changed a desiel fuel filter. Who can give me step by step insturctions? Help. I shall look forward to a reply.

Couple of things to add to the procedure. I put a very light coating of neverseeze on the plastic threads, don't forget to oil the new O ring. I put in enough fuel so that the housing overflows when I screw down the cap. Do not overtighten cap, do not overtighten the cap, again, Do not overtighten the cap. JMTCW

If you can't get the truck to start after bumping the starter a couple of time , then you can bleed the air by just loosening the fuel line closes to the front of your engine. it's a true pain in the *** to get the back ones and also the wrench will scape the paint off your valve cover if your not careful. Also after a while(could be next week or a year from now) if you can't get all the air out it may be time to change your lift pump.

Put a pan under the water drain and drain the fuel thru the water drain. Remove the cap and filter. With a clean rag or paper towel wipe out the housing. Install new filter to cap and apply new oiled o-ring to cap. Thread on the cap but keep loose so air can escape, bump starter to run lift pump. Diesel should poor from under the cap. Tighten, but not over tighten, cap. Bump started to run lift pump, I do this 2-3 times. Start the truck. Wipe up any diesel mess with a cleaner and a rag.

I'll second rluft's advice. My 98. 5 is slightly different but I leave the filter a little loose - turn the key to get the lift pump to run (do not start) and tighten when fuel starts to leak around the filter. You will get a little fuel on the ground so take epa preventive action.

sorry it's a bit off topic, but doesn't it get expensive having the HAZMAT truck standing by to clean up the HAZARDOUS WASTE SPILL!!!!! Oh, some of you may not be in California... sorry!
