Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) how do i check for error codes?

hi,guys this might seem strange but i don`t know how to check for error codes, my brothers and me have 10 of theres cummins rams so i guess it would be good to know ha haha something to do with turning the key several times? thanks

From model year 2001 and on (I think that's the year this feature began), you can turn the ignition key: ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON (leave ON) and any stored DTC's will be displayed in the odometer window.
