How do I choose what forums will show up in "View New Posts" and searches?

Steve,

When I go to view new posts, it sometimes takes me quite awhile to read through all the pages. The problem is that after a while when I click on the next page, it comes back saying sorry. Is there a way to avoid that? Besides reading faster.
