Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How do I clear codes in the PCM/ECM?

Just as the title stated - I just replaced the VP44, and I want to erase the error codes I had before the swap - is there a quick and dirty way to clear the codes or do I need a scanner?

Most auto parts stores especialy the chains will rent for free a code reader. They will charge your card and credit back when you return it. I,ve done this in the parking lot in 5 minutes and returned them. I dont know any Q&D methods. Other than waiting for them to clear themselves after X amount of start cycles.

Or better yet, get a smarty.
