Do any electical types know of an easy way to make this stupid chime quite dinging? I leave my drivers side door open with the key in the accessory position several times a day in my work and the thing is driving me nuts. The truck is a 2002 3500 5speed 4X4. I don't want to interfere with any other electrical functions if possible, thanks, JTMcC

I didnt want to poke around for half a day. So I removed the button that tells it that the door is open. Now it thinks the door is always closed. Disables the alarm though. But I actually like getting in and out without the interior light.

Remove the black cover under the steering wheel (near the ignition) under the key, there is a 2 wire plug, one wire is the key light, and one is the door noise, my light didnt work, so I just unpluged the whole thing. Use a test light to see which one wire it is. I haven't found any other effects since the removed it.

Like Rob says. Take the lower cover off of the steering column and Unplug the connector with 2 wires by the tumbler. All of the other functions of the warning system will work excepththe key warning. I too work out of my truck and the door can stay open for hours.

Mine is older and was probably more annoying. (BUZZZZZ instead of bing, bing, bing... ) I un-plugged the buzzer and no more seatbelt or door buzz Oo.

I also lost the headlight-on warning :(

I pulled the 3 torx screws out of the lower column cover but it still didn't want to come apart at the front and not ready to break anything just yet on my 3 month old truck, I put them back in and took out the door switch. When I get a little more time I will get the cover off and unplug it there. Thanks for the replies! I'm happier than a grown man should be over a little beeping horn!

JTMcC.

I know what you mean about the buzzer or bell driving you crazy. I have disconnected the alarm on all of my trucks. When i bought my Comanche. I pulled out of the dealer, accross teh street to the 7-11, reached up under the dash and yanked the buzzer out. My Dodge made it home before I disconnected it.

You can wire in a switch to the wire you cut and put switch on dash or any place You want. you can get one with a led in the togle. Twenty min job. Ron in Louisville KYOo. Oo. Oo. :D

I found the box from which the noise eminates, then unplugged it.

DO NOT DO THIS

Apparrently this box also contains a controller for wiper delay. My wipers did not have delay or wipe automaticly when the washer button was pushed:rolleyes: Needless to say it got plugged back in.

Im definatly gonna unplug that wire. And thats only the chime?? The cab light still works? what about the key light? I like my key light. ** im dissapointed the key light is gone on the '03**

Mine must be different cause my wipers still work. They wipe with the washer like they should but on delay they go once, twice or 3 times depending on how they feel. It helps keep life interesting :D

That's a pretty good idea Ron had about putting a switch in the chime circuit, I will probably do that when I get time. Does anyone know how to properly remove the cover from the bottom of the steering column? Remove the 3 torx screws then what? I really don't want to break anything and I don't have manuals for the new truck yet, thanks again, JTMcC.

On the sides of the cover (both sides), they have interlocking clips, just squeeze (gently) and it pops right out, for me anyway.

Obert - Thanks for that info. I removed the noise box the first day I got my truck and the other day when it started raining I noticed my delay did not work. I had no idea they were related. Now I just hope I saved that box and did not pitch it.

Pulled the drivers door switch out far enough to snip the brown wire (if I remember correctly). Taped the exposed ends of the wires & snapped the switch back in the hole. This is on a Y2k truck.

Worked great along with pulling the steering column connector mentioned above. Seems to be a decent solution to the annoying chime.

Lost the "headlights on when key is off" chime though. Hey, its got dual batts! No big.
