I am looking to install a Westach Fuel Pressure gauge on my 2000. I have seen the fuel line and Banjo Bolts sold thru Genos, but am still unclear how to do this. I would also like to install the gauge somewhere in the cab so I can view it as I travel. Any instructions or pictures would be a big help. Thanks again.

If you are not sure how to accomplish this I would get some help.

It is not that hard (smarts) a pain in the a$$ though.

you need to decided where in the cab you want to mount them then you buy the gauges and mounts follow the instructions

and go to it. You will need basic tools to get this done.

Hope this helps.

Geno's will give you a plate (free if you call them to order) that will fit in the cubby hole on the right side of the dash, that is how I mounted mine. As for under the hood, you will need to fabricate some sort of mount for the sender. I made a mount out of aluminum plate (using only a hacksaw and a drill) that bolts to the top of the black plastic covering the throttle cable. I ran the wires through the firewall where all the wires for the cab come through.

If I had a digital camera I would post pics.

not too tight

I got my kit at Geno's. It really is not that hard once you lay it all out. Be really careful about how tight you screw the hose onto the shraeder valve. After I went thru two hoses, I got some advice from the guys at Geno's. The first things was to attach it to the shraeder valve just tight enough to get the fuel flowing to bleed the air out of the hose. Once you get fuel coming out, back off on the tightness a bit to stop the folow and then hook it up to the sending unit. Then retighten the connection at the schraeder valve just tight enough so that it does not leak. This takes very little torque and you'll want to tighten it more. That's how I screwed up. I also bought the double guage mount A piller pod from Geno's so i could match up the fuel pressure guage with my egt / boost combo guage. Not hard but you end up having a lot of wires behind the A piller covering with three guages.

Good luck.

Oh, and unless you think you need to use the bnajo bolts for an alternate mounting, you don't have to use them. The hose Geno's sells you screws right on the the valve.

DTangstrom... It's a great idea to monitor your fuel pressure !! Especially with a full time in cab gauge !! Your definately on the right track. But I would recomend taking it at least one step further and upgrade you fuel delivery system.

The banjo's that the stock system uses are the real culprit to dead LP's and resulting dead VP's. They are very restrictive, and it's a wonder that DC ever even thought of using them  . There are many different ways to change you delivery system. Most all of them involve totally removing the banjo's and adding free flow fittings.

Good Luck !

Not to stray too far from the topic, but where are the banjo fittings and what would be involved with changing to free flow fittings? Where would you get them? (ok ok I know it's a newbie question)

When I ordered my fuel pressure gauge from Geno's, they actually talked me out of ordering the high-flow bango fitting. They told me since I didn't have any bombs, it wouldn't make that much of a difference. I plan on going with the FASS system as soon as I can convince my wife that the truck needs it! I try to tell her that $600 is a pretty good deal if it will save a $2000 part down the road. I plan on installing the fuel pressure gauge this weekend (if the weather would just let up a bit!).

I used Aeroquip push on fittings -6 AN, 3/8th in other words from www.SummitRacing.com. With a new lift pump and banjo's I could suck it down to 6PSI WOT, with the Aeroquip hose WOT only down to 10PSI.

Those are good pics jjohn !

I got my Flow Kit from Wildcat Diesel, Rod and Scott are both great guys to deal with. My kit is pretty similar to jjohn's except, I think ( but not sure ) that my fittings are -8 instead of -6. Either one would work fine for a stock to mildly bombed truck.

mmclaughlin... I got my fuel pressure gauge hooked up somewhere around 12 or 13,000 miles on the clock. My truck was, and still is, completely stock as far as fueling bombs. I lost my LP at about 31,500 on the clock ( NEVER any extra fueling involved ). IMHO even a bone stock truck needs to upgrade the fuel delivery lines.

I had a request for A few more angles

Hope this helps

Two AER-FCM1512 - Straight connector into Lift pump from tank.

Two AER-FCM1542 - 120 degree out of Lift pump 3. 5" hose to 120 degree into filter housing.

Three AER-FCM1532 - 90 degree out of bottom of filter housing.

Straight connector up at bottom of Fuel pressure tap.

90 degree away from fuel pressure tap.

90 degree into VP44.

AER-FCM2116 - Five (12x1. 5mm to -6AN ) weber carburetor adapters + alum. crush washers or banjo washers.

AER-FCV0615 - 15 feet Aeroquip AQP socketless hose.

Angola, Africa huh

Cam,

Yes I get out of the drive way and onto the freeway… 53,000 in a little over 2 years. However it doesn’t get off road all that much as I imagine yours does in Angola…

I did clean her up pretty good to changer out the fuel lines... . wouldn’t want to get my tools dirty you know. :D

I'm trying to install my fuel pressure gauge on my '01, and got the hose from geno's. My question is do you have to remove the valve core form the valve on the VP44?

No. You are looking in the wrong location. Thread the hose onto the fitting at the back of the fuel filter housing. Most likey has a black cap on it. Looks and acts much like a valve stem on a tire. Oppisite end of the hose goes to the sending unit for the pressure guage. I read 14 -17 psi at idle from that location.

There's not point in me posting my Max-flow pix now. Good job, jjohn.

I went with the max-flow because it wasn't much more than the AN setup like JJOHN used above. Plus, it's -8 instead of -6.

With the max-flow, I get 17-18 at idle, 13-14 cruise, and 10-11 WOT.

And *that's* with a the original factory LP and over 350rwhp.
