how do i know if i have a 99 or 98.5??

i keep running into the parts people wanting my build date on my 99 to find the right parts. Its 3 june 98. My title says 99. Do i have a 98. 5????? and how can i tell if i have the newest ecm reflash?? When it was in the other day for low power, i told them i wanted the latest software. They said $50 to check it. I said no just reflash it with the latest. They said NO it might not need it. Damn why would i pay for a check when its about the same cost just to do it. "sorry sir, we have to check if it needs it or not". Why cant i just walk in off the street and buy what i want instead of all this crap??!! RRR

Check the 10th digit of your VIN. If it is a "W" it is a 98. And They go in order from there. I know at some point at the end of the alphabet they skipped a letter. But I do know that 98 is "W".



97=V

98=W

99=X ? not sure

00=Y ? not sure

01=1

02=2

The 99 was not available till early Sept. of 98. Got mine Sept. 18th. bg

I had a 98. 5 truck and the light switch was a pull out switch for the headlights. If you wanted to change the dash lights, you just twisted the knob. On the 99's, the switch was replaced with a twist type switch with a separate rotary switch to adjust the dash lights. Hope this helps too.
