How do I know if my truck is an 04 or 04.5

I see where Dodge changed the fuel system during mid year of 04. Is one more desirable than the other? Is there a serial number break to figure out if I have an 04 or 04. 5? Thanks.

Build date on the valve cover tag is the easiest way to tell. December 2003 were the last 305/555 models for 2004. Jan 1, 2004 began the 2004. 5 m/y which I believe was rated at 325/600.



The 2004. 5 had a catalytic convertor, was quieter and more complex, and generally got worse fuel mileage.

The sticker on the side of the valve cover will also tell you the HP rating. The '04. 5 was 325 HP.

Two quick and easy ways to tell.

1. On an '04, the fan shroud is attached to the radiator. On an '04. 5, it's attached to the engine.

2. Where is your windshield washer bottle? If it's on the driver's side of the radiator, it's an '04. If it's on the passenger-side fender well, it's an 04. 5.
