I know i have seen threads on this before but i cant find them. Isnt there some kind of kit to insulate the inside of the cab? can anyone give me some info on this, or point me in the right direction?

I know i know, i could just get rid of the stacks but thats no fun. I do have a resonator i'm going to install to quiet the drone a little, but i was also thinking i would try something in the cab. Maybe gut the cab and rhino line (or something similar) the inside, then ad an extra layer of carpet or something. anyone do anything like this?

I am planning on doing the rear of my cab with dynamat soon, when i was doing my stereo install I found out there is absolutely no sound proofing materials there.

I removed the entire interior out of my 02 and installed Dynomat Extreme in the roof, doors, floor, back wall. And my truck had undercoating from the factory on the bottom of the cab. Still real darned noisey. Best result is improved stereo sound acoustics, heating and AC work better. I was looking at buying engine insusltaion kit, but decided to leave it and buy a 2009 that is real quiet. BTW, I have tinitus and long trips in the 3500 arre hard on my hearing.

Hope this helps.

As an update, I would like to say that I will be soundproofing the inside of the cab on my '01 next month. I will be taking notes of the install, as well as pictures and I have also acquired a sound meter to compare the before and after to let people know what my results are. Stay tuned...

I did this a few years ago and here is what I did-

I ordered some dynamat extreme 1 box is 36sf. Not near enough to do the job. I found another product called brown bread that the specs were very close to the dynamat extreme and it was 50sf and was approx 120. 00.

B-Quiet sound deadening materials - Brown Bread - Better than Dynamat!! brownbread. I used two 50sf boxes in addition to the 36sf of dynamat extreme

I used two layers (may have been 3 on the back wall cant remember for sure) on the back wall behind the seat. I used two layers on the rear floor and a third layer where the exhaust runs. I removed the front seats and did the same in the front and as far up the firewall as I could practically get. On the rear doors I took off the outer covering and did two layers as much as I could reach one layer on the inside of the outside door skin and one layer on the inside of the inside door panel. I did the same on the front doors as well as another layer on the outside of the inner door skin. I also put a layer inside the cowl as much as I could practically reach. That thing is like Carlsbad Caverns in there but you can only reach a small portion of it. I did not do the roof.

It did make a noticeable improvement but it is still far from Lexus quiet. I did not have a sound meter to make a before and after comparision.

If you search you may find a thread from years ago that is quite a few pages long on this subject and may be one of the ones mentioned earlier in this thread I did not check. Look for a thread by LSFARM the self proclaimed noise nazi. He went to great lengths to quiet his down. Some used a base layer of roofing lead sheeting and then used dynamat or some other product on top of it. Another thing to consider is DodgeRam some have used it with good experience but it is a bit spendy.

I used the B-quiet materials in my 97 as well. Its much cheaper than Dynomat and is better based on testing in the industry.

I'm laughing.

I agree with Patrick Hansen, Bill Lins, and Grumpy John.

Their three suggestions cost nothing, are very quick and easy to complete, and are guaranteed to work everytime they're tried.

Several years ago, I completely gutted the cab of my truck.

I started with a thick (1/16") coat of Herculiner, covering the inside, including the roof.

I then used Dynamat, with two layers in key areas.

I then foamed the cowl area under the dash with urethane foam.

Before the foam, I fabricated an aluminum duct for the cab fresh airAll of this made a huge difference,

I celebrated by installing a very nice sound system!!

If I were still pursuing making my "02 quieter, I think this might be the way to go: DodgeRam

It's a bit expensive though.

I have this kit in my '02; and while it does help a lot, it is not enough for my taste. That is the reason I will be attempting some soundproofing in the near future.

Wow,

You can spend $2K quieting the 2nd gen 24Vs. I installed 3 ea 36 sq ft packs of Dynomat Exteme in my interior for almost $400 and the complete engine/hood insulation pkg costs about $1. 5K. And still might not be quite inside. I also added second FloMax muffler infront of BD muffler. Quieter at the tail pipe. And, the factory undercoating under my cab was pretty thick too.

Good luck and tell us how your total effort works out.
