I was thinking the same thing. There are lots of posts on here from guys trying to make their turbos sound off more and now this. I wonder if you can buy a CD to play turbo whistles while Johnny Cash sings in the background. JH

Well, it's got a gasser as apposed to a diesel, but I've always enjoyed "Ministry - Jesus Built my hot rod" as a theme song :)

Try a Scotty II type intake system that ties into the cowl and maybe you'll rethink that.

Rusty

A friend has one on an '02 and it sounds like it's going to suck the papers out of the glove box. I kept opening it to see where the jet engine is, gets REAL annoying pulling a trailer.

Daytripper63, I understand your problem however besides using the stock air box or trying to get the intake as far away from the cab as possible I don't really know what to tell you. As someone else said you could insulate the firewall\hood with a sound dampening material (i. e. Dynamat or equivalent). The OEM tried to quiet down the factory turbo with the silencer ring and the airbox\piping. I have an AFE intake and a B1 turbo and I can use the factory piping, mine was pretty quiet until I replaced pieces of the factory duct with metal.

I want to find a way to make mine 10 times as loud! LOL!!!

Then you would like mine!

I like it also... as a matter of fact I view it as an audible gauge:p

However the Wife and Daughter would rather ride in the Honda Minivan on trips rather than my truck if they have to listen to my whining... turbo that is. Many pitch variations from the turbo on mountain passes in Colorado. I kind of like the Wife and Daughter also and would rather not have to drag them out of the Minivan into the pickup torturing them and getting scowled at the whole trip. I would also rather stay home than drive the Honda.

So I was thinking if the Tag-II for a Dodge (the longer all metal version that can't turn sideways) reduced the whining enough to make them happy it would be a quick swap out for trips.

Can anyone tell me how much a tag-II reduces the Turbo whin??? 10%, 50%?

I am not going to back out of any of my performance products so i may have to buy them both Bose noise canceling headphones:p

try getting some heat/sound wrap and wrap the whole intake and turbo. the heat insulation should help the turbo to wind up too

Just like the title says... I need to reduce some turbo noise, I like the sound to a point but when I am in the truck for longer drive times it gets annoying.

Hey daytripper63,
I "bit the bullet" and ordered the TAG-II. The longer all stainless TAG that can't rotate in the turbo inlet and make contact with the compressor wheel or shaft.
I found this article online that says there were no dyno changes with the TAG... but the article also implied that the TAG silenced a Scotty II air box. If it can do that (it would be amazing) it may be my answer to a on/off switch to the turbo music.

At 75mph and up cruising, my turbo sounds like you're at the airport listening to a 737 doing a high speed taxi past the window you're standing at. This is fun on the commute to work everyday but on a long trip or in the mountains... I think and I know the family thinks a choice would be nice.
I'll let you know if it works well enough to spend the $200.

Just to reiterate what the other members are saying our TAG can help with Turbo and AFE noise. It will not work with the AFE hard plastic tube and we recommed that you don't run the TAG III between twins. You will cook the plastic housing. There is absolutely no danger to your turbo from the TAG but you should always make sure it is securely clamped in place. There is only one incidence that I am aware of where the TAG caused a Turbo problem and that one was early on and it was being run between twins. We all should have known better! Live and learn.

Well it won't fit my turbo... I should have asked a few more questions

The inlet of the HX40 compressor housing HTT uses isn't machined out like my stock HY35 housing. I could see it wasn't going to work as designed on my new housing, the TAG-II wouldn't fit inside the HX40 housing as it would on the HY35. With the TAG-II in the hose I couldn't get the hose on far enough to clamp it down securely due to the outer tapper on the end new housing. After clamping the hose I could easily pull it off. I tried it on my removed stock HY35 and could see how nicely it would work on a stock shaped housing. This TAG-II is a well constructed all stainless nice piece of work. I am disappointed I won't be able to try or use it.

The good news is that a TAG III will still work if you want to give it a shot. It's also half the price! Otherwise I will gladly give you a refund.

If you've been on the road for days at a time towing a 5th wheel, it gets pretty old!

If the little turbo in the Dodge gets old for you, I guess you wouldn't want to ride with me in the KW. The turbo on the ISX Cummins is the loudest one I've EVER used. :-laf :-laf Only time it can really both me, is when I have the window open. Not bad otherwise.
